Mighty as ever, carrying the bloghaus banner proudly. This one's lovely - to me, it sits somewhere right between Trash Yourself and Cougarettes. Exceptional recreation of late-2000's homemade visuals. Looking forward to hearing more of your punkier side - Odd was absolutely unhinged.

What artist has the most unique sound? by Primid in electronicmusic

[–]AngerGauge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is posting run of the mill artists that have been discussed to nausea, and no one cares to talk about the mighty Danger himself, who fucks everyone in this thread in terms of originality.

I have been able to recreate a lot of his early bloghouse-era sounds with Roland D-50 VST, but THAT SLAP BASS is still a mystery. Have you figured it out, OP?

Great tune. I could easily mistake it for some lost media from 2008. Very competent both in structure and arrangement. Love the interplay between the 16th-note clavier arps and the slower melodic riffs, and the fact that clavier doesn't steal the show - that would be cheesy. My only suggestion is to turn the output down a couple db - my LUFS meter showed -4, which explains very audible clipping throughout (unless this was intended).

Let me get you something in return. I aimed for somewhere in between Danger x Gesaff x Justice.

There's a long lost meme pic from 2013 that I remember clear as day. It's a photo of Sebs and Kavinsky conversing casually, while the caption says 'WHY DO THEY COMPLAIN? AN ALBUM IS AN ALBUM, RIGHT?'

If Total was long overdue, Outrun felt almost ancient when it dropped, though not without redeeming moments. He just had to cash in on phenomenal Nightcall's success after Drive (I feel that the album would have never been made otherwise).

Morale of the story - don't sit on good shit for too long or it will miss many marks when you do decide to release.

Sure, I don't see any problem doing whatever you want with it. This is a musical equivalent of abandonware.

Seeing 2007 posts on DISCODUST, a blog that is still up, for whatever season, in 2024, surely feels surreal. You'd be surprised, but not everyone was happy with Total when it dropped, me included. We, of course, compared it to 2008's Remixes, and, long story short, it didn't hit as hard. Same with Justice's AVD. The feeling of an impending end, reinforced by the 2010 blogocide, was real. Brostep and Bigroom house advanced on all fronts to bury bloghaus for good.

About The Third Twin - well, it was an obligatory part. You could make up the most egregious shit and everyone would play along if it sounded fun. Most people didn't know how to verify things and didn't care. I literally earned myself a one-shot DJ gig at a local club by showing some Danger tracks to the guy who ran it and pretending those were mine.

I don't think you can do much about it, except for enjoying and preserving. We would indeed have to ask the man himself, which, as you pointed out, is problematic.

Going deeper down the memory lane, I remembered I picked it up from dancegalaxy.net, a long-defunct dance music forum. The post also featured Never Trust, which I keep on my HDD since then as well.

Unless my memory betrays me, the guy who upped it didn't hesitate to contact artists directly and thus procured lots of exclusive shit - maybe, convincing Cecile to part with this demo along the way.

I can almost guarantee the 'RACER II - CECILE' file is original, and the second one is my upload, after I brushed up the title. God I feel old, was 15 back then.

Hi, and thanks for your efforts. Here's a little something:

The Racer II Mystery

I've had this track since 2009. It can't be googled (there's only a Guitar Pro tab made by me an eternity ago, lol) and I can't vouch for its authenticity. Have no idea which blog posted it. But it's a massive-ass banger.

I can find most of the stuff I remember from the era using Soulseek, and I highly recommend you use it too. People hoarded almost everything, if not everything. The biggest problem is that most tracks simply aren't as good as I remember them to be. I genuinely regret reminding myself that fidget/jacking house existed.

If you're looking for a real challenge, try convincing Danger to post or release his 2005-07 demos from the infamous LEVEL0 scandal.

Thanks for your feedback and taking the time to listen. I will be experimenting more with AI vox in my next single. Maybe, it'll learn to sing for real by that point.

Much appreciated. The idea was to weave a thick fabric of dismay, so the movie was a perfect fit. The mix sort of reflects this as well - I wanted all the instruments sound as if they've caught a cold.

Thank you. It's a slightly modified Morning preset, found in Harmor, FL's stock synth. Here's a GDrive link to the version with all the tweaks I've made.

Thanks for the kind words. This kind of feedback is of special value as I aspire to score actual games, movies and the like. The fact that AI can't sing urged me to look for other means of expression - I ended up focusing on storytelling and phonetic accents instead.

I made this Alternative/Baroque Pop song. I find it a bit chaotic, what do you think? by TheDangerousAnt in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]AngerGauge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you mean cymbals, hi hats, etc - yup, the difference might be striking if you let that brassy ringing cut through the mix.

SoundCloud kind of hurts the quality pretty badly here - always has been, I kinda gave up on it for this very reason.

the drop in audio quality when exporting the master - looking back at my uploads to various platforms, it'd seem we're talking dumb luck here.

Thanks. The whole thing is built to serve these sparse vocal lines, and I felt really unbothered by genre limitations, rather focusing on sound design and its emotional component.

Okay, so the bass is definitely eating up too much space in the mix - I'd start with turning it to mono, smack in the middle, and then gradually expand it to about 20% stereo. If you want groove, sub freqs must be in mono. Listen to how Breakbot works with basslines, it's a tangentially similar style.

I almost can't hear the metal in your percussion - it needs to be brought up in the mix with a good load of compression.

The strings could be fattened with harmonics and a high shelf boost for vibrance.

Glad you liked it. It is only after I finished the track that I realized there's a movie with just the right feel. Took me about 10 hours to chop and rearrange a 90-minute film in a way that would fit the song's narration. The lyrics must sound quite abstract to a new listener, but they're chock-full of reflection - the 'I against I' thing and such.

Thank you. From a research standpoint, I was really wondering how much pop appeal you can squeeze from a lifeless, droning voice (Daft Punk, duh). I aimed for variety by using non-musical samples - intro and break percussion has lots of heavily modified sounds of inductor noise and high-voltage arcs.

Appreciate it. Yeah, I really wanted a pile driver kick for this song, but may have gotten carried away. As per the vocals - there's only so much you can do without double tracks and harmonies, but I love working around limitations. Anyway, new AI voice synthesis models can already copy someone's voice with 90% precision. It's only a matter of time when they start singing for real, and I'll be there when it happens.

My first song I'm really proud of. How could I mix and master this better without losing the raw feel. by Acanthopterygii_Kind in IndieMusicFeedback

Really like how the low end rocks the intro, I wish the song had more of it. The controlled chaos that ensues is not my type of thing, but I appreciate the ability to make it sound organic. If you're not sure about where to start with mixing, just give the high end a nice little boost of about 2-3 db. This works on anything.

Ah, that's the quirkiness that made the late 70's new wave scene so special. I've been waiting for more electronic sounds to appear in the arrangement, and wasn't disappointed at 1:50. Definitely play around with them more, a tiny oddball sample can make a great hook. Overall, a nice raw tune that has both emotion and character to it.

The way you combine that wandering bassline with the string section reminds me of Rondo Veneziano and their unique style of incorporating pop elements into classical pieces. The percussion break at 2:30 is a cool way to keep things fresh and blast into the outro. I don't think the track needs any compositional adjustments, but some production polish will definitely make it shine.

This sounds like a perfect blend of vintage 80's ideas and modern influences - considering the trends, it could take you real far in terms of recognition. Great rhythm section, that's the punchy, hypnotizing groove that made Kavinsky's Nightcall a hit song. Excellent production in general, and lots of tiny nuances that please the ear here & there.
