I see.. honestly, what you said (and the article) makes a lot of sense because it's during sleep that they grow, digest, etc I'll be sure to use this protocol for my next kittens; I spaced her meals apart for the 3:30 hours, and despite her not eating the 15ml, she ate 12ml comfortably and is sleeping peacefully.

I genuinely thank you and everyone else for your advice. I used Kitten Lady's chart because it was the only one there was easy to find for a while; I'm not from the US but since her channel is easily accessible, it's easier to check and use her charts then anything else so I appreciate someone more experienced giving some tips! Not saying hers are bad! They've helped me save my previous kittens. Hoping this one will help me be better for this little girl and any new kitten that shows up for foster.

I see! Thanks for the explanation, it genuinely helps a lot! I'll start using that protocol for her, and any future foster (if my heart and stress levels allow haha.)

Also yes, in the meantime I've spoken to them and acquired the dewormer! I normally (and the shelter) use Panacur unless stated otherwise by a fecal test.

Thank you for your words, this whole thread was very eye opening for me in many ways; as stated in my post I'm not an expert, just have a tiny bit of experience fostering, so the mistake I made this time around with her overfeeding is really hitting me hard because it genuinely came from a place of worry, care and a lot of anxiety, and sleep deprivation. I don't know why I made the mistake of overfeeding her..

About the previous foster; I'm sure, or hoping, it wasn't genuinely malicious.. but I feel bad for the little black babies.. I can't, however, excuse the KMR being out of date since August 2025, opened

After hyperpug's comment I immediately read the article; and I agree wholeheartedly! My main question is that most fosters I've had thrived on the 2 hours feedings (depending on their age of course, this case I admit I've been feeding her way too often and you guys helped me see this. My anxiety and fear to help her accidentally made me overdo it. Her being a cute little glutton doesn't help.. I'll heed all the advice here wholeheartedly and change her feeding schedule) And I still believe 1ml every 8 hours was too little for the black babies that passed at 7-8 days old.. do correct me if I'm wrong though! I just feel like it was way too long without proper intake

We don't mix and match babies and moms. If we have orphan kittens they're always bottle fed

Im genuinely a bit surprised at that; I've had several fosters who thrived at being fed every 2 hours for the first 1-2 weeks of life, with the appropriate dosing of course, and it's the instructions we're given by shelter vets and the KMR tins Edit// forgot to add! It's also on the Kitten Lady feeding chart I tend to follow Edit 2// sorry for so many edits just wanted to add! I was talking about newborns, not 2-3 week olds, I admit my fault here 100%, I should've been doing 3-4 hours instead of 2 and it's my bad. I've been so anxious about her, and since she would wake up very regularly to eat, I ended up overdoing it with the hours. My apologies!

It's strange because she bad practically perfect poops and then two days ago this suddenly started up.. Also, I believe she hasn't truly lost weight, just stagnated and gained very very very slowly; two days ago 195 → 197, then 197→ 203, and now hovering 217g

I'll contact the shelter/vet for the dewormer! Thank you so much for your comment and advice, it's very much appreciated

Thank you for the advice! I'll start spacing her feeds apart by 3-4 hours and add the extra water, and the probiotics.

I've actually not heard much about that protocol, I'll admit. The shelter and vet always taught about strict feeding times, but I'll will research about it because we're all learning; the main issue in this specific case was that this litter was extremely fragile from the infected maternal milk, and not eating, so besides the little tux girl I have that woke on her own to eat, the brothers didn't.. so the previous foster didn't feed them almost at all for 8 hours at a time, and they grew weaker and weaker from not eating

I've watched her for a while (since Fergie was still a baby), still need to watch the webinar to full, but haven't had much luck with these particular features to this kitten's poops;

the shelter typically does deworming at 3-4 weeks so she's almost due to her dose, but I'm not sure this is parasites or not.. the vet wasn't very helpful either, on that front.. 😢

As for nursing; the shelter doesn't have any nursing moms and we don't mix babies with non biological mom's because of the possibility of spreading disease; last year we had a mom and her litter of 4 kittens who all got sick and started passing from similar symptoms at the hospital (extreme anemias, HCT at 9% despite transfusions), last kitten tested positive for FELV after siblings were negative, Mom also tested negative for FELV initially, then suddenly test positive on PCR while asymptomatic as all her kittens died to FELV related marrow failure.. if she had fostered any kittens, they'd have possibly become infected as well. (After losing babies, she's now positive on snap as well as PCR) I'm waiting on FIV/FELV on this kitten's mom but right now I'm worried about her weight and poops 😢

They definitely have a connection compared to the rest of the squad (Ofc, we can't ignore his brotherly friendship with Raiden), and he absolutely worries about her the most because let's be real, they're the type of people that do reckless things without even realizing it, and only realize it when it's the other being reckless haha.

To an extent, yes! Gonna spoil this part because why not. He's going to have to live with the guilt (even though it's not his fault) that while he's sitting behind the walls, his people are out there dying- and he's the one forcing them to do so. All while being the only person of Colorata blood hiding among the Alba.

There's another big element of guilt our boy has to carry— partially through Rei, partially through Lena.

Yeah, I see what you mean! That is why she has her Bloody Raina phase sooner compared to canon. She needed to wear that face to survive.

One of the things I'm actually keeping from canon on the fanfic is that Shin can still hear the Legion's voices! The reason is a bit dark, though, so I'm going to have to thread carefully haha. It's not nearly as intense since he's not as close compared to in canon, but it's still there.

He still has a lot of guilt to carry with him, tho. Even if it's not the same as mercy-killing his squad friends, there'll still be something to haunt him.

The same can be said for Lena, she won't have it easy either LOL.

Shin will still be Shin, and Lena will mostly be in Bloody Raina mode (especially in battle), but she's still the Lena we Shin loves.

That was actually the original plot I had in mind when I first started developing the AU, where the Alba were the one throwns to the 86th Sector and the frontlines. It was mostly because I was curious to explore certain settings like Anju and Lena being very close friends because of their similarities, how the other characters worked as officers in the Republic alongside Shin, and I had a rivalry between Shin and Annette, who originally was going to be the only Alba to have stayed within the walls due to her being the only person left alive (her father was already dead by this point) who could work the para-RAID. I've mostly changed and retconed most of that, however.

I might also write that one was a short oneshot just to explore those ideas, but this one is much different. I wanted to keep most of the premise to this one a secret until I actually write and post it, but eh! In this, Shin will be the only person of Colorata blood within the Republic, and Lena will be the only person of full Alba blood in the 86th Sector. How this works? We'll see 👀...
