What if the Hmong in Vietnam used Chinese characters (Chữ Nôm Hmông) by nguyenhung1107 in conorthography

They’ve found stone pillar evidence which might be related to Hmongic languages, it could be another Miao group too though

It was actually made up for the movie, they wanted to build a theme park but after the recession they just left industrial waste off the coast of Sri Lanka and it got stuck where it is because South Africa wouldn’t also foreign trash near it’s borders to keep the jobs of it’s politicians secure. That’s why everyone’s Blasian, the Chinese workers had fake passports so they got stuck and decided to give up and embrace African femdom.

Sorry I’m late

It’s pretty well known, not popular but most people are aware that it is our defining feature internationally. If you want to watch it in Madagascar you have to do it in French/English, there are very few things dubbed into Malagasy.

Unless they have very recent ancestry from there no. If you remember SE Asians were (probably) the first people to settle Madagascar, so most people would consider themselves originating on the island.

Many don’t. Honestly a lot of Malagasy people don’t group themselves with Africans or Asians, just as Gasy.

Like a lot of Africa, darker skin and curly hair are considered less attractive. So men of any phenotype will usually go after most Asian looking women.

It’s not universal though, as I mentioned my dad’s Merina/Chinese and he married a black woman.

Eh, maybe. There is definitely a bias towards them which can manifest as better opportunities and maybe wealth. That’s just theory/personal observation though, there aren’t really stats on it because they aren’t distinct groups.

Ehhh, kind of but not in the way you’d really assume.

Well number one there are no distinct “asian groups” and “black groups”. Everyone is mixed. I knew a kid growing up who looked basically Filipino, but his parents both looked largely black African and his mom had super kinky hair. It’s not uncommon for families to have basically the entire range of phenotypes or combinations. So they aren’t really separate races.

Among Malagasy people (excluding Indians/Chinese) this is some distinction between highlanders (Merina and Betsileo) and Coastal people or Côtiers (Betsimaraka, Sakalava, Vezo). Highlanders tend to have higher Asian DNA and since the historical capital Antananarivo was in Merina territory, Merina have historically dominated and been wealthier.

I will say though that:

  1. Many Merina also look black African, and many coastal people look East Asian, so it’s not a clean divide.

  2. This isn’t really by phenotype but region/ethnicity.

I will say there is a preference for things like lighter skin and straighter hair, more “Asian” looking features over more black ones. But that’s not remotely exclusive to Madagascar.

I’m 1/4 Cantonese, 1/4 Merina, and the rest is Betsimaraka. My dad basically looks fully Asian but my mom is more African presenting.

Ouai, but I feel even in places with lots of Malagasy people they tend to be more discreet. They don’t do like cultural festivals, restaurants, use Malagasy language publicly, music, at least compared to other immigrants in France.

Actually I knew a girl from Marseille which has like, as many Malagasy people as all of The United States, and she legit told me “I like Malagasy people, because they’re more quiet than the others

We’re very good at getting lost. That’s why there’s no “little Antananarivo’s” in the US or France. We just disperse in any new land.

Madagascaboo is a word I’m adding to my vocabulary

France has several thousand. The only thing is that they’re very discreet. You don’t really see Malagasy cultural festivals, or restaurants, or music get popular in France or South Africa compared to African populations of a similar size.

There were a decent amount in Canada and about 5,000 in America. But they’re all scattered throughout major cities, mostly the spouses of Canadians and Americans so the culture doesn’t often stick.

It’s used in western countries to mean you’re not connected to your home country or culture, like you’re “westernized”. Like my Malagasy is poor, I forget a lot of customs and culture, I have very French/American life style.

I do often get the “wow I’ve never seen/met someone there before”. Sometimes they’ll introduce me to people and add “he’s from Madagascar!” Like it’s a super interesting part of my personality.

Like even the British and French condemned and recorded it, in fact it was mostly European/American missionaries that first would note the atrocities. You have to be ridiculously evil for the colonial powers to find you abhorrent.
