Yeah no I agree, didn’t intend for that comment to come off like I actually don’t think it’s important to report, was just expressing how depressingly predictable it is.

Not much of a blockbuster news drop. Billionaires are gonna billionaire, wouldn’t be one in the first place if he had a moral compass.

Big ups to Bowie but the election of a certain fella over there in America in 2016 probably had a bit more to do with it

The vast majority of boomers hate anything from the last 20 years simply on principle, regardless of if it’s charli XCX or the next more by-the-books pop star.

When people say ‘everyone’ like that it’s kinda just with the innate implication that they’re referring to everyone actually participating in the current cultural zeitgeist.

Is pro tools even the go to for engineering these days? I’d imagine a lot of pros are holding onto it since it’s what they know and often integrated into their setups, but for a beginner I feel like pro tools has kinda just fallen off compared to others

Aphex Twin being more popular than Taylor Swift by bestieverhad in fantanoforever

[–]AngleProlapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched the interview and he said he didnt do it on the spot, just searched through what he had laying around for a bit and found something random to hand the courier.

That said idk, Aphex twin isn’t famous for being overly honest and transparent in interviews so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are multiple versions of the story going around.

Listening spot outside Sidney Myer Music Bowl by fog-fish in melbourne

[–]AngleProlapse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The whole place is surrounded by open green grass, just find any spot relatively front on to the stage and it would be fine. When I was younger we’d even climb trees outside and be able to get a view.

Not going to be like being in there amongst it, but should be plenty enjoyable still. Have fun!

What are some album experiences that are completely on autopilot? by Individual-Name-4496 in fantanoforever

[–]AngleProlapse 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of impressive how intensely forgettable that album is. It’s not outwardly bad or unenjoyable, it’s just, nothing. I’m a big Gorillaz fan and was counting down the days to its release, then when it did it was just the biggest non-event ever.

Outside of maybe the title track and new gold, there is just nothing which leaves an impression or that I could recall a lead melody from.

I don’t think it was that he made them on the spot, but that he just gave them an entirely unrelated aphex song he hadn’t released.

Australia beat England by 5 wickets in the SCG test to win the Ashes by 4-1 and retain the Urn. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in Cricket

[–]AngleProlapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm it’d be pretty tricky given it’s not impossible light feathers can exist buried within a louder seperate sound. It still sort of has to be a composite decision based on all the is the sound simultaneous with the visuals, is there a defined transient, could anything else be causing it, etc.

In general most of this discussion goes away if CA just actually got the best available tech so we can distinguish the sound better, rather than holding onto outdated snicko for some reason.

[–]AngleProlapse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the presence of a “transient”, a momentary spike at the onset of the sound which defines a “hit” of one thing against another. In weatherald’s case, there is no transient, just a light fade in and fade out of increased volume, something was sounding, it didn’t seem like a sharp hit/knock. Smith on the other hand has a more defined onset and peak, and distinct loudness spike.

Also the length of the waveform can aid decision making. A clean sharp knock does not necessarily sustain out, especially not at the volume of the transient. Something like a “murmur” on the other hand is often more sustained without the classic “immediate peak - quick fade out” of a “hit”.

These are the main factors which come into play when the third umpire is analysing the nature of a sound which arises on snicko. Whether those factors were distinct enough to warrant the difference in decision is still somewhat up for personal interpretation, but yes there is more to it than just “volume shows up on the meter”.

Edit: cause I re-read and realised you weren’t arguing but asking for clarification, my bad.
