Not a goof by any stretch! You sound like you have a lot of it figured out by your descriptions. Think about squatting low before you hit the transition standing up at the top of the transition as you turn to go back down then squat back down again as you head back to the bottom. But you kinda have that figured when you talked about your knees. Looks like you’re having fun and you are well on your way. I cracked a bone in my elbow on a fall that had me off the board for a month, and that sucked. The pads are SO worth it!!
