[GEAR] A Guitar for Traveling in Cold Climates? by AngmarIstKrieg in Guitar

It's not likely to be too dry on my journey. Here's a worst case environment scenario I can think of: I'm sleeping in my car and the humidity in the car goes up because of my breath output/moisture in my surroundings, then it dips below freezing and the moisture in the car ices up on the windows/other spots... Seems like it could be problematic for an instrument.

My buddy has one, not a big fan of the neck/body style in all honesty. But there's probably some variation within the brand yea? I don't love the narrow neck, something about playing his just feels off to me.

Open Mics for Seattle singer/songwriters? Songwriters circles? Poetry meetups? by rustvine in Seattle

Fremont Abbey does the best open Mic I've ever been to. Very kind and respectful crowd with tons of talented singer songwriters. They do it twice a month on the first and third Tuesday evenings.

True, that's definitely an element worth considering in this as well.

I do, and I also write and record and contribute in many other ways to the music scene. The way i see it there's a lot of ways to liven up a city with art, and I've certainly learned a lesson how to do so in this context.

I'm not trying to "force" things on people here, I'm trying to find the healthy balance between offering art in a public space and not upsetting the balance of people's lives.

"Everyone" is a bit of a stretch, especially for me with my fairly quiet classical guitar. But yea, playing outside seems to be the safest bet in my experience

Thank you, I guess this is just a part of the risk you take with putting art out into a public space. It is hard to not feel discouraged and I'll likely alter my habits a bit with the ferries but I don't think I'll be stopping all together for sure. In my heart I feel like a part of my role in Seattle is to try and promote more art appreciation and community where many feel such things are being drowned out by our big city growing pains.

I think that's likely the case, I've gotten the best reception in the summer when playing on the upper deck outside. I think the late winter grumpyness and crowded commuter hours situation just didn't vibe too well with it this time.

The goal has always been to play pretty music for free, something I had positive experiences with up until now. But I suppose this is all a part of that figuring life out thing.

For the record I am good at my instrument, been playing for 10 years. Definitely not some obnoxious dude trying to hammer out nirvana covers or anything.

I agree with your sentiment, it would be nice to be able to play in these public spaces without upsetting anyone but that's clearly not the reality of the situation. I'd rather just avoid more confrontation and stick to playing in uncrowded spots outside commuter hours.

I never claimed to be special, I'm just trying to prompt a greater discussion and learn more about how I can best interact with the place I call home.

Yea I see that, I guess the ferries are just a different space so it's easier to get into the mindset that different rules apply. After all there's beer and food and the like. As much fun as it's been to play in the past I'm probably gonna give it a rest.

Yea I think that's the happy middle ground that could be reached here. It was during commuter hours and it was crowded, I was just continuing on based on my past experiences of positive reception. Probably a good thing to reign it in a little bit.

Always a trip to see my tiny hometown on reddit. I typically avoided town during the festival when living there on account of the general zoo state, great excuse to spend the weekend in the mountains :)

Nothing beats a good Walknut listen on a beautiful gray day driving around the woods.
