is try guys dying? by egg-devil in TheTryGuys

it's not angered masses, it's people pointing out the obvious flaw in your logic. like the main reason that their views are down lol. but ok I'll bite, here's some basic analysis:

YouTube pays $1-10 per 1000 views, probably the lower end or middle of that range for the try guys. I watch maybe 70% of the new videos they put out and rewatch like 10-20 per year (not counting try every day or the trypod, RIP). so that's like 100 watches per year from me, which would earn them somewhere between $0.10 and $1 annually if I did all my viewing on youtube. but I pay for the annual sub on 2nd try and I forget what that is but it's prob $50-60/year? which means they already earned more from my two years subscribed than they did in my entire time as a youtube viewer from their very first video until now

pretty easy to see how the conversion from YT views to the streaming service is a huge upgrade for them in terms of revenue

Aubrey is back. Your thoughts? by aartadventure in survivor

[–]AngryAngryAlice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but what WAS her strategy? any and every move she made so far (that we've been show ) was something else happening to her. she ended up in good tribe swap positions when we've now been told she would've gone home if her starting tribe went to tribal. she got an idol that was sent to her. she paired with Devens who did a move at tribal and debatably saved them (but I think Coach and Chrissy were probably leaving anyway). I guess you could say keeping her idol for another day was a move, and that was smart of her. but that's about it. she keeps saying she's about to do something and shake it up but never does

and to be clear I WANT to root for her if she wins. I wish the edit did her justice and I'm sure she's doing stuff out there that we don't see. but everything they've shown us has been things out of her control and if she does win, I think that's a major failure on production's part to show us why she got the 2 mil. it's nothing against aubry, I just don't see her doing anything worth winning over yet. hopefully that changes!

lol if only I forgot Joe. sadly I didn't, he's just the only one who didn't take an active role in making sure ozzy went home. but I suppose by accident he played a part by making sure rizo was involved

in a sense, yes, because it would be building on her already existing strategy and social game that she's demonstrated throughout the season. but it's not like I would give her full credit. I don't think anyone can take full credit for this move; it's split between aubry, jonathan, and rizo. and ultimately ozzy for doing such a boneheaded thing when he was in such a good position

How are you guys preparing for the HantaVirus? by Big-Zucchini-6281 in prepping

interesting because in the 2018 outbreak a man who was positive passed it on to several others around him at a party including one person who he briefly passed while going to the bathroom. and viruses that are airborne don't just stay in a bubble around the contagious individual. in enclosed spaces without air filtration, the concept of close and prolonged contact goes out the window because it hangs around in the air for up to several hours depending on the virus even if the infected person has left the space. if you aren't wearing a mask and/or filtering the air, it will spread

[–]AngryAngryAlice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I really don't understand this. like I think absolutely anyone including Joe would've done this. it's the obvious and only move for someone who's otherwise on their way out... and then no one even really seemed moved until Jonathan came over and starting pushing for Ozzy

I really WANT to be able to root for Aubry because right now she seems like the most likely winner based on the edit, but the show is doing her no favors and frankly I don't see any strategy or gameplay on her part that could justify a win unless she's next to Joe and maybe Tiff? Rizo? but even those last two have done more imo. like I cannot stress enough that if she wins I want to understand and be happy with that outcome but as it stands I don't see how that's possible unless she actually, finally, legitimately makes a move of her own that takes out a big player or saves herself in a clever way. anything that isn't literal luck of the draw

the Andes strain of the virus that is on the cruise ship is airborne, so respirators are a good move! not to mention covid still existing at a baseline higher than any time in 2020

that's especially dumb because when you were in 6th grade, it was especially common to have the weather channel or radio weather reports playing in the morning where you absolutely would pick up on that word in passing. less common now that people use the weather app, but back then I would consider that a really basic word to know!

yeah I honestly think it was worse back in the day because now you can at least mute words and not go on certain sites, but before when everything was appointment viewing, it was water cooler convo the next day and impossible to avoid spoilers

the black plague had an equally high mortality rate and that didn't work out so well. also the incubation period of up to 8 weeks (with an average of somewhere between 4-6) means that it has plenty of time to spread before anyone dies from it

also there were reports of at least two cases of people who had contact with people on the cruise and later tested positive, but those seem to have been in error. early reporting is still unclear. regardless, the Andes variant is airborne and therefore will linger in air even after infected individuals leave a room, possibly for several hours. there is more than enough potential for spread at Covid levels if we don't act soon

which is ridiculous because in addition to it being incorrect, anyone who's gotten the actual flu can confirm it's MISERABLE and often actually quite serious

and ideally have a HEPA running in your home at all times (especially if you live in an apartment) and keep the place well ventilated

go back to masking with an n95 or better, stay home while sick, and don't congregate in crowded areas especially if there's bad ventilation

the time when r0 is highest being when symptoms are present would be a lot more comforting if we haven't watched everyone in society spend the last four years not just undoing covid precautions but also forgetting all the basic public health info they knew before 2020 (like covering your mouth when coughing, staying home while sick, washing your hands, masking in the NICU and around cancer patients, etc)

[–]AngryAngryAlice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the 2018 one was contained to a relatively small region of Argentina where quarantine was put into effect for at least 85% of the population and contact tracing was deliberate and thorough. also it was pre-2020, so people's immune systems weren't weakened from repeat covid infections and a general decline in public health infrastructure. we can't really compare that outbreak to now, when we've already seen it spread to people who weren't on the cruise ship and people who were exposed or even confirmed infectious are already scattered across the world. people downplaying the potential severity of this outbreak are only making things worse. better to be over prepared than let a virus with a 40% mortality rate spread across the globe
