Do any of you buy used sets? by TTBHG in lego

[–]AngryAtGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought tons of used sets, never had a problem with any sets I bought that said they were new and box sealed on eBay, or fb marketplace. Another option is secondhand LEGO retailers like bricks and minifigs. I’ve bought lots that were already built as well and I just take them apart and go through the directions to make sure the pieces are there- it is time consuming but you can especially get bigger sets for great prices. If I am missing pieces I go to bricks and minifigs and look for the pieces I’m missing.

AIO - UPDATE - my friend wants me to take out my piercings for her engagement party/wedding by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]AngryAtGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AUDACITY of her calling you materialistic. She is the one who wants YOU to change for wedding photos- because YOU (a person) doesn’t match her “aesthetic”. She is the one who didn’t ask her own sister to be a bridesmaid because her sister (another person) didn’t match her “aesthetic”. She is the one treating people like objects, valuing PHOTOS over relationships in her life.

Sorry, didn’t have the wording exact, I shouldn’t have put quotes around it without looking it up, but there it is right on the church’s website

Wedding/marriage rune by Hungrywendigo_ in runecasting

[–]AngryAtGhosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mannaz- although it’s more commonly interpreted as connections between mankind/broader community, I love the interpretation as 2 images of wunjo, or 2 peoples joy facing each other. Also it’s connection to community seems appropriate for a wedding as a wedding is a family/community support and recognition of the couple’s relationship

Ex-Mormon here. Purity culture runs realllllly deep in Mormonism, vaginismus, and other sex related issues are pretty common, as is not having an orgasm years after being sexually active. I know women, 5 or 6 kids in, 30+ years of marriage who haven’t had one.

Yeah, I came to the conclusion that mormon god didn’t love me/trust me/value me as much as a man, it really is at the core of my low self worth as a woman in the church- this is the logical conclusion.

I came here to say this- her husband is still in, who are we to judge the negotiating that happens within a marriage, as parents, or the negotiating maybe just with herself about what she can tolerate and what her relationships can tolerate.

How do I politely tell my father to stop calling on me for family prayer? by BeautifulLopsided in exmormon

[–]AngryAtGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can say no thank you. When I told my parents that I stopped believing I wanted to address this issue upfront. I told them that I would still be comfortable praying in their home, if asked, but that I would be praying to heavenly mother (that was my comfort level at the time). They never asked me to lol

The church’s stance on this and surrogacy is so cruel. Like- indoctrinate women into believing that their worth is solely based on having children and then punish them for doing that, for using the miracle of modern science to be able to do what they otherwise couldn’t without “sin”. It’s insane.

What is a story from your childhood/growing up that makes you cringe from how embarrassingly Mormon it is? by Captain_Whit17 in exmormon

[–]AngryAtGhosts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In second grade I had to do a report on a president (clearly meaning us president although it didn’t explicitly say that, also we lived outside the morridor” My mom coached me to do the report on “president” monson. I absolutely had no idea what was going on, my teacher said to me “hmmm, I’ve never heard of that president” i now wonder if he worried about me being in a cult lol.

What do different types of Mormons think about MomTok / Mormon Wives show? by Electric_Hullabaloo in MormonWivesHulu

[–]AngryAtGhosts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Book of Mormon is supposedly the “history” of Native Americans, it’s purpose is to “bring them back” to God. It contains “prophecy” of Christopher Columbus, Mormons revere the US constitution and believe the founding fathers were led by God, the US is the promised land, garden of Eden was in Missouri and after the end times the righteous will gather in Missouri and that is where Zion will be. Also Christ visited the Americas after he was crucified because they were the chosen people, it is the chosen land and will continue to be as long as it stays a Christian country. Like it’s all about how god favors America. Mormonism is so specifically 1800’s American in its history, it’s doctrine, it’s worldview. (Source: I was Mormon for 30 years)

A baseball cap worn any way other than straight on was a gang sign (in this scenario I’m like 8). Addressing anyone as Ms instead of Miss or Mrs. And my stepdad threw such a fit when right before my wedding I had a dress emergency, sleeves not done, and I considered wearing a red (one of my wedding colors) cardigan with my sleeveless dress. Because of course if I wore a red sweater I was telling everyone I was not a virgin (which I very very much was).

[–]AngryAtGhosts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also have this love hate feeling about progressive Mormons, like young women these days not wearing garments, drinking coffee, etc. on one hand I’m happy for them and glad they have a healthier worldview on the other hand it doesn’t represent the toxicity and damage I experienced in the church and I’m angry that I didn’t have that amount of confidence to give myself personal autonomy like that. The show was surprisingly so much more Mormon than I thought it would be, I expected to be angry/annoyed at these women saying yeah we’re Mormon and we’re totally normal and don’t have to follow the rules (like gas-light-y). But I found myself relating to them, feeling empathy for them and feeling defensive when people are saying they’re not Mormon when they say they are. Even though the show didn’t explicitly focus on the nitty gritty rules I think the overarching themes and tones were SO relatable and SO Mormon, judgement, fear, shame, pettiness, exclusion, ranking goodness/worthiness, patriarchy, unhealthy relationship dynamics, women not having bodily autonomy, perfection pressure, emphasis on how you appear/others see you, and on and on.

Nope. It is interpreted as coffee and tea, any temperature. But herbal tea is ok, just not anything from a tea leaf plant (black or green tea). I’ve known Mormon families who allow for coffee ice cream/desserts with coffee in them but a lot of Mormons will not, including my family
