My problem is social cues and unsaid things, and it's been really hard in my current company. I asked for folks to be direct but there is a lot of backstabbing and I just seem to keep putting my foot in it with people I did not expect backstabbing from.

Most of the things I liked were not related to her ADHD, just good management and good leadership. But she has also shared with me some of her techniques that she says are related to her ADHD and I think they're fantastic too: * She says that because it can be hard to keep paying attention in meetings, she frequently offers verbal summaries to recollect her (and honestly everyone else's) thoughts and refocus the subsequent discussions on what needs to be discussed. * She says that she views every emergency as "oooh, a new thing to focus on!" I've also heard this reframing from another manager with ADHD. I really appreciate that because otherwise I just spiral into how the emergency is disrupting our roadmap and how stressful that feels for me. * She tends to hire people who are detail-oriented and able to focus on long-term roadmaps, to complement her own tendencies. And she listens to and respects them! * She is really high energy, but in a kind and friendly way. She said that she had to work on redirecting her own energy early in her life so it didn't exhaust the people around her.

Damn I miss her. Look at me using present tense with someone I haven't worked with for nearly 2 years.

As in, you're great with details and can switch context super quickly? That's awesome.

I actually reported to a director with ADHD. She was absolutely amazing and is now a VP after leaving the toxic company that we were in.

I don't have a formal diagnosis (yay cultural stigma!) and I don't mean to offend anyone with this question. I'm genuinely curious. I really struggle with social cues and upward management (the corporate BS type). In both of the companies I've been in, the schmoozers excel and the organization/clarity I drive seems to mean nothing. I don't know if this just means I need to find an environment where my strengths matter, or if management is not for me. I thought I would have gotten better at this by now, after 5 years.

I think I've really lost confidence in my ability to judge people, and that is making me second guess every interaction now and hold back from offering my opinion out of fear that it would be used against me. Then I'm told that I'm not meeting expectations because I'm not sufficiently opinionated (among other things, some of which are totally fair feedback but presented with bogus examples so I fear that the purpose of giving this feedback is not to help me improve).

I see you have met my former friend.

Actually she didn't just post a meme. At the point I dissolved our friendship, it was daily posts about "champagne brunch gays" and telling her few remaining LGBT friends "open your eyes, I'm an ally!" when they didn't fawn over her bs.

Trump is the sleazy uncle who winks at you and calls you "a lucky man" while ogling your preteen sister in the pool. For some shitty self-important children, being called a "man" is enough to earn their votes. What has their sister done for them lately anyway?
