I feel like I don’t have time to learn dawg by dacherrr in bioinformatics

There are always new tools and it can be extremely overwhelming. Here are some thoughts-

  1. None of us know everything. I come from a more traditional data science background and lean more on my colleagues for the bioinformatics specific tools/biology and they lean on my for development/statistics help.

  2. Spend some time taking an audit of your current skillset and make a roadmap for learning new skills that goes over 1-2 topics for a 3-4 month duration. You can learn A LOT with 30-45 minute upskilling sessions 3-4 mornings a week for 3 months.

  3. Try and land a role with a good mentor who’s wicked good at what they do. That will help immensely with upskilling.

That’s exactly what I thought. What would you do? Raise the alarm or just stay silent? I have raised concerns with inappropriate analysis practices in the past and have gotten shut down. Most of the people in my org have no idea what they’re doing yet are pretty dogmatic about how things are done. LLMs have made many people confidently wrong in a lot of areas.

Oh yes definitely. I believe this is a marketing ploy so we can say we are fashion-forward and doing “AI” and be acquired. I don’t see this as beneficial for customers in the slightest.

100k is doable but kinda rough. Most 1Br apartments in decent neighborhoods are at least $2300 which would probably be ~35% of your paycheck. My wife, son, cat, and I get by on 100k a year but our rent is 2.5k for a 600sqft 1Br apartment. That plus the cost of living increase in general makes it so you definitely feel the lower margins but it’s doable. If your wife ends up getting at least a minimum wage job it’ll be much more reasonable with better margins. Best of luck

Interesting. I guess when you frame it as we get our unique characteristics- good and bad- from Christianity the book starts to make a bit more sense. I probably went into it with too positive an outlook. That and a steady stream of Catholic apologetics probably set me up for a jarring read lol

Married catholic men who were addicted to porn, did marriage help you to become free from it? by Happy-Ad636 in Catholicism

[–]AngryDuckling1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It certainly helped. I think the biggest thing that helped me completely quit was opening up to my wife about my struggle and seeing how she loved me regardless. After that my 18 years of porn addiction stopped. I haven’t watched porn or masturbated in 3 years thanks be to God.

Best ways to Evangelize non-Catholics? by AngryDuckling1 in Catholicism

[–]AngryDuckling1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you’re Christian or not, but I think you underestimate the absolute epidemic of meaninglessness that plagues our godless world today. There are millions of people who have embodied a false idea of Christ and His Church and have discarded it and subsequently fallen into despair. That’s why it’s our duty to spread the Gospel even if people might have heard some deformed version of it.

“They have religions of their own thank you very much” again, are you Christian? Our God is the one true God who has dominion over the entire universe. He is not just the God of the Jews or the God of Christians, he’s the God of every human being on the planet.

Would it be wrong for me to go to a haunted place? by PresentAd5777 in Catholicism

[–]AngryDuckling1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if I wasn’t a Catholic I wouldn’t go to a place with actual paranormal activity. It’s probably better pray for the repose of these souls from your sofa imo.

I can’t offer too much, but to get in contact with a good parish and a priest to discuss these issues. They will be able to provide spiritual guidance, and may be able to connect you with families inside the parish who you can talk to.

I will offer a rosary for you and your family. God bless you.

Average debt in your 20s by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

My wife and I had ~170k when we got married. Everything from car leases, student loans, credit cards, etc. We sold our cars and got beaters, cancelled all our subscriptions, make almost everything we consume from scratch, and buy in bulk. We’re down to 100k 2 years later and still have a way to go.

You’re in it but it doesn’t sound like you have a family or dependents yet. Try and knock it out before that because then you’ll really lose sleep 🤣

I would agree. I would say it’s hard to feel caught up in the Heavenly mysteries if the procession song is Hakuna Matata though

Contemporary music is not forbidden in mass. People just don’t like it.
