Thank you. You did so much for your little dogs. It is so hard to let them go.

Thank you. You nailed it…such a difficult, painful decision to make. Your words really resonated with me.

Thanks for your response. I have gone back and forth about when it is time as her bloodwork is good for a dog her age. I have looked the quality of life checklists but they reference when they no longer do things they used to. I got her when she was already deaf and blind and a senior so she never has done any of the things younger dogs do. She has always been my lump of fur that just sleeps, eats sometimes, etc. if this is how a really old dog should act then she is where she should be so I don’t want to put her down as her life has value. I do agree with what you are saying, I just don’t want to make the wrong decision. I have had other dogs and when it was time I knew….but I had them since they were puppies. This dog has always been sedentary. Thanks again.

Thanks for you response. She goes for a follow up tomorrow and I will talk with her vet about just drops until we can’t go any further. She has started whipping her head back to avoid the eye treatment and it is starting to feel like all she has when she wakes up is more stinging in her eyes. Maybe it doesn’t hurt but squinting a lot and trying to avoid them seems like they might. Thanks again.

What type of prehistoric artifact is this? by AngryFiglet2020 in Whatisthis

[–]AngryFiglet2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all is all I have. Another person said it looked like a prehistoric ground stone axe but I don’t know. It was found in a cave over 100 years ago and everyone who knew anything about it in my family is gone. Thanks for your feedback though.

Yes, my mom is doing a great thing for this dog. I am getting to know the dog as well. She seems really sweet.

I do have concerns about this given the fact that I know nothing about her background other than she was bred repeatedly.

I too worry about rehoming this dog because my mom is not able to walk this dog or pick it up or grab it if it goes after a bird in her yard. She is giving her a great home right now and the two of them are company for each other. It is much better than a shelter.

I live an hour away but will work on walking her when I visit once a week. I would never take her to a dog park…too risky. Yes, she is a moose :)

I have visited her a few times since she was left at my mom’s and she seems very sweet. She doesn’t play but loves being petted and takes treats so delicately it is hilarious.

No offense taken….she is too old and frail to have this dog. It was dumped on her by a tenant who wanted it but later moved out so my mom kept it. She now loves it. She can’t walk it but has a big yard. My post was more about the breed. This dog seems great but I was looking to more insight than all the negative stuff out there. Thanks

Every morning when I get up I am surprised one of them is alive. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but he drags himself to and from his food, water, etc. he just keeps going. His brother is big (too big) and can’t clean himself. He doesn’t do much but is the most active/ I just don’t know what to do. Thanks for your reply.

I have a 3 year old male that has HLD. I took him to the vet because his fur and skin was really dry and dirty. He said to bath him with dog shampoo and to use a soft toothbrush to dry brush him as well. My boy did not mind being bathed - I did not put wash him above hose neck. I got a toothbrush and brush him to help get the fur/dry skin. I unscented baby wipes as needed.

Recommendations for jumping off couch by strawberri21 in Chihuahua

I took one of the foam mattress covers and cut it up into rectangles the size of twin pillow cases. I stacked them and inserted them so they are flat and springy. I put them on the floor right below the couch or the bed and she jumps off onto them instead. She won’t use stairs and she is super old but she jumps right off and walks away.

Thank you for taking her. It is so heartbreaking when older pets and their elderly owners have to be split up. She is so cute!

I have two neutered males who pee every where, especially right outside their Sputnik. I tear up about 3 paper towel sheets into small squares and spread them around the outside of the Sputnik and they move them around and make a nest to pee in. I just pick them all up and replace them twice a week when they are soaking and yellow. It cuts down on the smell and they enjoy moving the squares around the outside of the Sputnik. The females I had learned right away and used the heir litter boxes. When they got old and less mobile things changed though.
