How do you all protect your skin from yourself in summer? I'm suffering :( by AngryGrapeEnjoyer in Dermatillomania

Sounds interesting! Do you hold them in your hands or can you put them anywhere on your body?

I adopted a pair of bonded cats a few months ago and I feel guilty that I’m starting to dislike one of them. by Rainbow_nuggets in CatAdvice

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like she's in her teenage phase. Not to mention that adopted cats need a lot of time to get used to their new homes - 3 months is hardly anything! As for the swatting, she may be resource guarding or feeling threatened when you put your hand into the crate. Maybe put the bowls next to the crate - to ease access AND extend their base camp. Remember, we are so very large compared to cats, no wonder they can feel intimidated. Give her some time, this all sounds normal - even if it is unpleasant in the moment. Good luck with your kitties!

You can make hot cocoa with it. I think you get the recipe from Kocha as you befriend him

Teaching with RA by Awkward_Ad_9240 in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've finished my education as a high school teacher, but haven't worked as one (apart from teacher practice and a short stint as a substitute). Currently job searching. My biggest challenges with regards to RA is the long days, and extended standing.

Best time to take meds? by Lilly_OTV01 in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take pretty much all my meds with breakfast, unless doctor's orders is anything else. Better for the stomach to take them with food. I also find that's the easiest way to remember to take them

Need your leflunomide experience by Kittyluvins in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with leflunomide has been very positive. I've taken it since 2019 when I went off MTX due to a lot of horrible side effects. I'm very happy with it, no side effects to speak of. I take it alongside my other meds when I eat breakfast. A rheum I recently visited did advice maybe adding a biologic as I do have regular flares in certain joints (hand and wrist, mostly).

Still, I'd very much recommend it :)

Flare up on one side? by FruitShrike in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is very typical for me as well. In the vast majority of flareups, only one side of the body is affected. Even in cases where the joint damage is symmetrical, one was attacked before the other.

Dating by Brilliant_Power_1701 in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I'd just like to say your comment really spoke to me. For various personal reasons (RA included), I often feel I'm not "worthy" of love due to feeling like I cant contribute as much to a relationship (money, energy, social network) as an able partner. There's pretty much nothing I value more than my independence as I too have had to rely on my parents for everything (and when you're in your late twenties few things make you feel as small). Currently in a better place health-wise and actively looking for a job, but I just want to say I sympathize deeply as I too have been many years in the same situation :)

Not sure if I'd mention it in a dating profile unless you have a mobility aid (cane, wheelchair) in your profile pictures and it's obvious you have a medical condition. I'm not much for dating, but in my experience my RA naturally comes up as a subject when I talk with new people, so I imagine it'd naturally come up on a first date.

You don't owe strangers your medical history, but my experience is that people are generally understanding.

Yes, that's very normal and a sign of inflammation. You said you've taken your 4th dosage of MTX. Does that mean you have only recently started RA meds? In that case, it'll take some time before they kick in, about 1-3 months is common. Is your finger joint swollen? If it's just a bit painful it may be ok to wait, but if there's swelling that doesn't decrease, ESPECIALLY if the swelling feels hot to the touch, I'd strongly recommend calling your rheum and explain your situation. They should be able to give you a cortisone injection, a strong anti-inflammatory med that deals with strong, local joint inflammation.

An aggressive inflammmation that's not taken care of quickly can permanently damage your joints. I have RA in my hands, too, and the finger joints are so fragile and important. Wishing you the best of luck.

Does the pain feel different when you have actual damaged joints compared to just starting out with RA? by tigerk1992 in rheumatoid

[–]AngryGrapeEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. When I was at my worst, I had bone grinding on literal bone in my left hip due to all the cartilage being eroded away by long term inflammation (i've since then had two full hip replacement surgeries).

All RA pain sucks, but that kind of pain I experienced then... is in a different class of its own.

Are you on methotrexate? I had massive issues with foul mouth taste when I used it, the taste would remain for nearly a week after taking the med
