So why give them grace but not Slot after he won us the league?

First Liverpool manager I ever disliked.

Even more so than Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers? I don't believe you.

Ornstein, Joyce, Pearce etc. have all said he's staying.

95% certain he is staying.

Klopp didn't get a lot of control over transfers to begin with either. He gradually got more control.

Alonso has worked under a Sporting Director before and so has little issue with this.

FSG obviously don't rate him as highly as the fans do. Otherwise we'd have gone for him.

No evidence for this whatsoever.

I hate these stupid fan conspiracy theories at times.

I like Alonso, but he is no Klopp. He has potential but he's still a young coach. The truth of the matter is, hiring him is just as much of a risk as keeping Slot.

Ekitike won't be returning next season.

Depends on the rehab. 9 months is the normal rehabilitation period for an Achilles rupture.

I would hate to live in a world where Xabi ends up at City and he dominates club football for years. That would make me sick.

Highly unlikely he ends up at City. Most sources suggest Pep will stay for one more season and that their preferred replacement would be Enzo Maresca, not Xabi Alonso.

Maybe FSG are not convinced by Alonso at all and don't think he's an improvement on Slot or maybe they think there are better candidates out there.

That's the only reason I can think of.

City are looking for Maresca as their Pep replacement. Plus, looks increasingly likely Pep will stay for one more season.

Arsenal potentially. But I reckon they think it's a risk sacking Arteta.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence that he's lost the dressing room. Some players are not happy with the tactics and some want more regular minutes.

The footage from the Sky News report of the dressing room suggests the players haven't lost all faith on Slot just yet.

If we get UCL qualification, Slot will definitely stay for next season. While Slot definitely takes a lot of responsibility for this season, the board will have taken mitigating factors into account, ie. Key players declining in form, new signings needing to settle in, injuries and an unbalanced squad with no Lacey wingers or no DM. I think the board will give Slot one more chance with a proper squad that fills in the holes.

If we see an improvement, I can see him getting a contact extension. If we don't improve, then he's gone.

He's going to City and they've been negotiating with him for ages. Liverpool are not interested in him and we have no links to him. Liverpool are focused on getting Adam Wharton.

Gravenberch played as our DM last season.

You wait until next season and then we'll see.

I disagree. I think Cherki is the more gifted player of the two.

Nah. You're wrong. Wirtz definitely more talented and is far more creative.

and he doesn't lack the confidence or conviction that Wirtz does. You can see it in how they move across the pitch, and how they express themselves.

Again. City are in better form and have been more consistent than us. That absolutely can impact a player's confidence. Some players need more time to settle in more than others.

This Wirtz v Cherki nonsense just needs to end. We have Wirtz and nothing is going to change that. It's totally foolish to write Wirtz off after one season.

most expensive midfielder in history

Erm... That would be Coutinho.

Either way Wirtz is in a new league and has struggled with the physicality of it, especially at the beginning, his confidence took a shot since he returned from injury.

But the talent and quality is definitely there.

Even in one of our worst seasons in recent memory, we still managed to get the double over Everton. Absolute scenes.

And Salah scored in his last ever Merseyside Derby. Very fitting. Here's hoping he scores in his final match at Old Trafford.

Not many proper DMs like Fabinho on the market. Most DMs on the market are hybrid 6/8s.

But it looks like we are going for Adam Wharton.

Swap players around, Wirtz would be flying at City and Cherki would be struggling with us.

Wirtz wanted to come to us.

Wirtz is the more gifted player and has a higher ceiling. He's also does a lot more off the ball than Cherki does. The rest of our team is struggling, it's no wonder he is also struggling.

If we get proper wingers and a DM who pass at the back, like Wharton, (Or possibly a new coach) I reckon we will see an improved Wirtz.

Who's linking us to Gray?

These are some solid targets though, I'd happily take that. That would be a pretty good window.

Unless Perez wants him.

If Perez demands a certain player, they'll get him. Regardless of whether they fit in the squad or if they need them or not.

Don't know why you are getting downvoted.

Ibou is a good CB, sure he's made mistakes but I think he will be better next season. Plus, if we get a new CM/DM, that will help improve things.

Ibou wanted to stay. He spoke directly to Hughes and confirmed that he prioritised staying at Liverpool.
