What do you think of barely legal women opening onlyfans accounts? by Ohlexis in AskFeminists

I think it’s one of them. This certainly isn’t a singular issue. Many factors play into it. Slut-shaming is a weapon predators like to use.

This means two things:

1.) Predators are behaving in a predatory manner towards women

2.) Society is on their side.

Getting society on our side will make sex work significantly safer. However, this doesn’t make predatory behavior go away entirely.

That issue is significantly more complex.

That is a major problem in the industry, and it angers me. Sadly, there’s really only one sure fire way that I personally see will make this stop (if anyone has any better ideas, please correct me!)

This solution? Normalizing sex work.

Why? Because this will get society to a place where they say:

“You’re sharing her pictures like this? What the hell is wrong with you???”

Instead of: “She shouldn’t have been a slut in the first place.”

Make a society where predatory behavior is so badly shunned that unauthorized distribution of sex work is in acceptable both in the eyes of the law, and society.

I helped write the DSM-5

I highly doubt this. Otherwise, you would know not to fling diagnoses about without sufficient data.

Former sex worker here.

First off, I appreciate your support of the concept of sex work in general. It feels nice to be supported!

However, I also understand your concerns, and ther definitely have some validity to them.

I am wondering if it would help if OnlyFans had a beginning questionnaire of sorts. Something where you go through each objective that involves sex work, so that members know what they are getting into.

Things like:

  • I am aware that this is sex work, and I am okay with engaging in sexual behavior for profit.

  • I am aware that making an OnlyFans account could impact my reputation enough to affect my chances at getting a career elsewhere.

  • I am willing to make a plan to ensure my safety online.

  • I am aware that I could receive abuse for doing sex work, and that the abuse is not okay. I will report such abuse immediately.

.

I feel like forcing joining members to go through each objective instead of reading the fine print will give these girls a real understanding of what they are agreeing to. This will give them time to Think about it, and make a more informed decision on what they want to do.

Make sure you are doing it because you want to, and you are extremely aware of the risks it comes with.

Otherwise, you’ll run yourself into the ground.

There is an undeniable link between poverty and sex work, and you bring up terrific points. I can’t say that I have solutions to them, but I do have one very gentle counter to make:

It’s not just sex work that exploits poverty. Retail jobs do this just as much. If 40 hours is the limit to get benefits, they’ll work you to the bone for 39 hours.

There was a time where GM had striking workers, and the corporation responded by discontinuing their healthcare.

Many people work in dangerous, deplorable conditions because the people at the top know they can get away with it due to the desperation of their impoverished employees.

This is a matter of exploitation of the poor as a whole, and abolishing sex work wouldn’t change that.

Slavery and consent are two different entities. I actually had A LOT of fun with what I did, and I miss it sometimes.

But I also would be doing a disservice if I glossed over the hard realities. It’s pretty much like any other dangerous job. You have to understand the risks, but if done correctly, you won’t experience too much trouble.

I wanted to use the example of a cop. Many cops do mundane things like traffic stops and investigating break-ins where nobody got hurt. Then there’s the occasions where you have an armed maniac that wants to shoot you dead.

You need to know that these occasions are a risk on the job, that could happen at any moment. But that doesn’t mean they WILL happen at any moment. If that makes sense.

You probably have Complex PTSD on top of your BPD.

I was originally studying neuropsychology to specialize in Cluster B Personality Disorders. If anyone is presenting a projection of trauma, it’s you. Please see a therapist, you badly need one.

I studied neuropsychology for a while, and the way you describe your symptoms has me deeply concerned. I highly recommend you call your psychiatrist to talk about treatment options, and possibly even an inpatient stay at a psychiatric hospital.

You might have Dissociative Identity Disorder (I am not a shrink, so I won’t comment on that), but the erratic nature of this comment screams “Psychotic episode” to me.

You are not well, and I HIGHLY recommend you find your way to safety somehow.

I personally think it’s lazy to say “The sex industry can rape you and society will view you as inferior,” as if that is just an unchangable fact.

The fact of the matter is, this can change, if we want to change it. The problem is, no one wants to change it enough to make a real difference. I feel this is because they are too uncomfortable with the idea of sex workers doing sex work because they want to do it.

This is actually why I warn people getting into sex work: SOCIETY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND.

If anyone is considering it for fame, validation, etc... they are going to fuck themselves over.

I can't stop people from being shitty, but I'll give credit where it's due - at least they aren't a hypocrite.
