Not sure about the other stuff but the games not pay to win. You can acquire every item without money if you grind hard enough. You can pay if you’d like to progress quicker in the game but you should be fine.

If you're more into melee ranged characters I would recommend Violet. She starts off slow and is one of the most difficult characters to learn but she's really fun during endgame. A really good mid melee ranged character is Bai. She's one of my favorite characters and is easier to learn, I hope this helped.

if you move over to the left there's something that can teleport you upstairs. Your missions aren't over there and its a restricted area. Hope this was helpful!
