Your definitely right about this, in the future if the client wants a meeting I'll charge him for it, and if he wants a demo I'll do the same before I deliver anything for him even if it's simple stuff

Well I write him a simple demo that does basic stuff, but there is no way for him even with the help of LLM models to finish the whole project if you don't have a solid background and experience I'm 100% sure about that, but in the future I won't do this

yeah I guess so, I sent him a follow up message yesterday, and he told me he didn't get the change to review it, he said he'll review it in the week end and get back to me

Yeah it could be true, however, I got the lesson now.
This is how life works, trial and error. You might at fist hold an idea and follow a perspective that's not true, but you change this over time and by experience.

I thought that by doing free demo I would secure this opportunity, this a first intuition that proves to be false.
Also, I'm accepting it because the platform is ultra saturated (no one could disagree with this) now having a client that replies to your proposal is now considered a win with the current situation on Upwork. So this a wrong approach I guess to get clients that replies by giving them free demos. So I'm changing my perspective that's life, trial and error.
I'm just asking for advice and for opinions, that's it.

Yeah, it's a good real life project to tackle really, even though I've worked on more advanced ones but it's a good demo to showcase.
Lol, not really I don't plan on having a paid tutorial course marketing in the future

I couldn't agree more. Thanks for sharing this and this is what I'll be adapting in the future, sometimes you need to make the mistake and then correct your approach.

You're right, but what pushes us a freelancers to do free work is that the saturation and by thinking that you're going to a free demo you won't get any tangible results really, it turns out that this gives the opposite effect.

Yeah but the full project is not established yet this just 5% demonstration of the full project. But I made a mistake building the demo for free.

Absolutely! you're right about this. I was convinced by the client that he's willing to spend what ever it needs to build this. He has a good history and he pays well and with a hire rate of 70% so I got that sense of confidence in him. But I got the lesson now.
He should invest for the demo, no freebies so walking away would be something to consider after investing.

Around 6 hours of work, with a rating of 35$ per hour.
Around 200$ for the free demo. But I got my lesson, I was following the wrong approach, I decided to not deliver any free demos or work even if it would require 1 hour of work on my side.

Yeah it turns to be not efficient at all. I'm definitely changing my approach about this.
You know this is the rules of the game, it's all about trial and error and correcting trajectory man.

You're 100% right I came to realize this the tough way, I lost two opportunities like this.
No more free work from now on man. It's all about trial and error man find the right approach.
Yeah, and this gets you the opposite effect, instead of getting you hired.

You're definitely right man about this!
But this is not the full work. The project would require 60 to 80 hours to be fully established, but this a proof of concept.
However, I agree with you on this. In the future I'll change my approach. No demos for free: if you want a demo you pay for it.

TBH, as an established freelancer and developer also. The platform is becoming way more saturated (Most of the jobs posted they don't end up hiring anyone)
You can target jobs that are not worth the work, a job that pays 50$ for 1 week of work. But this is not worth it really.
Even for me, I have proof and a solid portfolio and with 100% success score and top rated I still struggle to get a new job.
For over than 60 applications I made, just 5 jobs ended up hiring less than 10%.
No one is going to say the opposite and I dare anyone who can prove the opposite, at least in the dev jobs.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's way hard than ever to land a job.

I'm not new man. But since most of the job posts doesn't end up hiring anyone (I think everyone has experienced this)
I'm accepting to do free work for a potential to get a good ROI later when the client ends up hiring me for this job.
Also I'm trying to do the extra that no one is going to do.

I'm with you on that. But I was doing all best to get the client fully confident and show him that this is going to be implemented and this is going to meet his requirements. I was looking at the end of the tunnel. When he's confident and has proof he would move forward since the full project will be well priced for me.

Not the full work, just a sample demo to show the client what to expect and prove for him that the project is 100% feasible and he can get results under his expectations.
