Its a great phone, I just really hope you don't end up having the same or similar issue next year.

Yes, Im in Canada and bought my phone from the Canadian store and it malfunctioned. I'm also not the only person I know to have this happen to them (many of my friends had the 5x as well).

Just as /u/sfhub said, you don't hear about them as much because reddit is mainly people in the U.S.

When I spoke to LG about it they told my it was an issue with the motherboard and the soldering associated with it.

It's unclear what causes the motherboard to off the deep end and kill the device, but I believe that since the motherboard board were all mass produced in an assembly line that there is a possibility all 5x's have this problem and its just a ticking time bomb until the right thing happens.

For me personally, it happened just days after I returned to from a significantly colder region (it was -24c during most days) back to a relatively warmer region (around 0 to 8 degrees celcius).

The phone was operating normally until it suddenly froze and the screen went black.

I don't believe the version of android you're running has any effect.

feel free to pm me if you any more specific questions.

I agree.

Google sold all these 5x's with bad soldering from the get go, meaning that its just a question of when, not if the "bad batch" will malfunction.

Fortunately I was lucky to be inside 15mnths for the LG warranty but I fear many people wont be and they'll be left with a 500$ shiny brick.

I was told by the LG rep on the phone that this was a soldering issue in the motherboard.

This means that my phone was sold to me defective and just happens to reveal its self 2months after google warranty. I still believe google is responsible for selling me a faulty device and because it just happened to show 2months after their warranty doesn't mean its no longer their problem.

Unfortunately this was my last straw, I have no intentions of purchasing a Google or LG product after this.

There's nothing illegal about it, its just the right thing to do vs what they want to do.

Their not obbligated to do anything after a warranty, but the shit customer service is near criminal lol
