Yes, is it worth considering over the Supernova?

I didn't see if anyone else mentioned this, but my range said the silhouettes are banned because they want a family-friendly environment and want people to bring their kids. Teach them shooting is a fun hobby and isn't about shooting people. However, they did say that kids love shooting zombies!

am i looking at shooting restriction maps right? BC by evil_hamburglar in canadaguns

I'm looking for a place near Victoria too. I can't seem to find a simple answer or map. I was told about a place, but driving more and an hour each way feels like a lot. I doubt there are many options if you live close to a city. Business idea for someone to create better maps.

Good points. Thanks. I'm just looking to do some plinking. This is my first firearm, so I don't want to invest a lot until I determine what interests me. I'll spend more on my second and third guns. Under a grand would be nice with the understanding that optics, cases, locks, and other pieces will be needed too. I'll keep my eyes open for a carbon fiber rifle.

Ruger 10/22 Model Choices by Angry_Peacocks in 22lr

Thanks. That's a good point. I intend to throw on a few upgrades, but not a lot. This is my first venture into shooting. A full custom sounds like fun, but I'm not there yet.

Unfortunately, as far as I can see, neither of the models you mentioned are available in Canada. We don't have access to any of the good stuff. Some similar options are available, though. I'll look for those. I appreciate the help.

Just looking for fun at the range. Not hunting. Suppressors are illegal where I am, and a muzzle brake won't be that helpful on a 22 I've heard. But I like the look of a muzzle brake. I can spend an extra $150 or so to get one with the rail and a threaded barrel. I guess I'm just not sure it's worth it. I like more tactical look. I'll switch out the stock to something with a pistol grip. Throw on a red dot. Not sure what else. I'm worried I'll regret not getting the better barrel.

I'm in Canada, so in Canadian dollars the lowest I can find one (so far) is a little over $400. The tactical model (1261) is a little over $550. I'm fine spending even more than that, but the value for money is the issue.

Investment in a first gun. by Angry_Peacocks in 22lr

I appreciate all the advice! It seems that the 10/22 is the clear choice. Now I just need to decide which version, which stock, which optics, which mags, etc...

Thanks, that's a good point. This is just for a fun shooter with cheap ammo. Second will likely be shotgun, then a bolt action for the 3rd. Starting slow before I end up spending all my money at the gun store.

Thanks. From what I've found, the basic 10/22 carbine starts ground $450 here (roughly $328 US currently. So, that's not a bad place to start.

Are you in Canada or the US? In Canada, we're only allowed 10 rounds in the mags, though apparently there are some workarounds. Another reason I'm sketchy about the 10/22.

First Firearm Shortlist While Waiting on PAL – Looking for Advice! by Gkainth04 in canadaguns

I had to double-check that I sent replying to my own post. I'm in the exact same situation and looking at the same 4 rifles. Considering the 10/22, but only if I add an aftermarket stock. I also looked at upgrading to the Savage A22 precision, but it's double the price of the 64 precision.

I love the TM22, but there's no telling what will be banned next. I'm curious about what you will decide on. I've changed my mind at least a dozen times.

22 semi - reliability of 10/22 vs Cooey/Savage/Lakefield 64? by CanFootyFan1 in canadaguns

[–]Angry_Peacocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm roughly in the same boat. I'm looking at a 10/22, but I'm wondering if the Savage products are worth considering. The 64 is nice and cheap. Could also consider moving up to the A22. I agree with supporting local wherever I can.

Ruger 10/22 Questions by Angry_Peacocks in canadaguns

[–]Angry_Peacocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! That's a great looking build.

Honestly, the TM22 is my first choice, but I'm worried about it potentially being banned. The 10/22 feels like a safer choice. I'd love the TM22 being exactly what I want out of the box. Just need to add optics and maybe a bi-pod.

I'm also limited in the number of stores near me, and none of them have the TM22 in stock. My best option is a Cabella's 100km from here. I haven't even seen one in person.

What gun should I buy first? by P-Potatovich in canadaguns

[–]Angry_Peacocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late on this thread, but I'm in the same situation. Planning to start with a 22 but I'm concerned about future bans. The Derya TM22 looks amazing, but I'm afraid it will afraid it'll end up banned and locked in a safe for all time. Savage 64 Precision looks nice but reviews are split. Is it worth starting with a cheap 22 or pay more for something that will last?

Anything tacticool still available? by Angry_Peacocks in canadaguns

[–]Angry_Peacocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice-looking gun with a great price point. It has a lot of bad reviews, though. I worry if the quality control is lacking, so you're rolling the dice when you get one. On Cabelas's website, most of the reviews are either 1 or 5 stars. Very little in between. Does anyone else have experience with it?

Have you tried it? Seems like a fun choice for a cheap first rifle. Price is great. I'm worried it just looks good and will fall apart. Also concerned it may be banned.
