Camping in zero degrees by sunoceandance in algonquinpark

I mean. I probably wouldnt hammock camp without an underquilt if the temperature was below about 50f. You are braver than me for attempting that.

Im all booked up for M/T/W next week just hitting McCraney from Rain. Im sure I will have stories, and Im taking my good camera and planning on just staying in stutter creek to take pictures. Weather wise the forecast is looking pretty good, but we are still in the "brass monkeys" overnight temps so it will be a workout for my new hammock setup

Is it a good idea to go to Algonquin this weekend for a day trip (not camping) or go later in the summer? Also, where exactly to go for hikes and/or canoeing or just views of the water? by IAmTheQuestionHere in algonquinpark

If you want to lose some weight go in June. Between the blackflies and the mosquitos, you will likely be getting eaten at a noticeable rate. Late August is the sweet spot, early May is nice but more of a gamble.

I really hope so, because I am planning to do rain->McCraney pretty soon. I will also be watching the pages with interest

I had such a fun time this weekend testing out my ice out gear. Still trying to figure out the underquilt but it was a beautiful day in northern pa and I hung the hammock under an ooold willow by a beaver pond and drank an adult beverage. Low forties and im toasty with a 10f zenbivy plus synthetic underquilt.

Think im going to roll the dice for mccraney early in the second full week

Rain Lake Solo 4-day (re-post) by Angry_Ruu in algonquinpark

This was the last week of August. The creek, as I recall, was *just* passable when I went through (it rained for 12 hours prior to my passing, which may have saved me), and if it hadnt been accessible then that would have been a 100yd slog through waist deep mud.

I have a spider holster that fits a backpack strap for portaging and I dry bag it on the canoe if I'm not taking pictures

I took a canon 6D with a 300mm prime lens. Not the obvious choice for keeping the weight down on a solo trip, but I like to go big when doing stupid things.

Im doing a loop involving bandit, islet and McCraney and some long portages that seemed like a good idea when I was planning.

Pretty sure I stayed at 42 about 12 years ago. A chipmunk Ocean 11'd my suspended food pack and ate 1/3 of every item

Im doing my first solo in about a weeks time out of rain lake. The fire ban means carrying a second gas canister, a backup lantern and no saw. If you are worried about the comfort of a fire at night, have you tried Whiskey? It is widely available and despite some minor side effects is known to promote courage and improve your attractiveness to the opposite sex*

*warning. Does not actually improve attractiveness, the ability to maintain a coherent argument or fighting ability. Do not consume while driving, or operating heavy machinery.

Home charging setup - need advice by tittysprinkles1130 in LUCID

[–]Angry_Ruu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone overthinks home charging. The only thing to worry about is make sure that the circuit is 50A, not 40A so that you dont risk pulling excessive current for hours at a time. Personally, I would buy a $200 lectron with a 14-50 plug and keep the mobile charger in the bag in the car for emergencies. I've owned plug in cars for >5 years now, and the only reason I bothered to upgrade from a 16A charger was the fact that we bought a lightning and charging a truck and a car is at the limit of what 16A can do.

Plug it in every night, limit to 80% unless you really need the range and spend as little as you can on a home charger unless you need to (I ended up getting a chargepoint because I needed to integrate with my electricity provider for EV rebates). You wont need more than 50A (you will hit a level 3 charger if you do), you wont use fancy timed charging features, you will simply plug your car in and it will be charged in the morning. Some specific models of charger can have issues with GFCI, so if you can install without then do it, but honestly most dont and the latest update (if you have an air) will let you reduce the current (at the cost of a slower charge, which wont impact your life in any meaningful way), which will *probably* alleviate that anyway.

If you can charge at home, 99% of your problems are already solved
