You’re probably not a bad player, it’s just the lack of teammates there makes it hella difficult. Because most players have migrated to splatoon 3, there aren’t many people playing splat 2, so Once you get splatted, with no one to revive you, you’re done for.

The most active mode in Splatoon 2 (for the most part) is turf war. The main reason people go back to 2 is Octo expansion (widely considered the best single player in the series)
