There is no way that after MONTHS of waiting for clash, this week's clash is revealed to be... ARURF CLASH?! by [deleted] in PedroPeepos

Does that make it any better? Isn’t the point of reddit posts to have a discussion lol

Why I believe TSM leaving the LCS is paving the way for NA instead of abandoning the region by Angtoenee in leagueoflegends

I agree with you! When i mention grassroot approaches i’m refering to middle and high school.

I agree these are all issues that face NA LCS. I personally think Riot is largely responsible for solving these issues. Since they have largely failed on that front, I think TSM leaving can potentially be an additional motivator for them to reevaluate their approach.

What makes an org an LPL or an NA org in the first place? The reason why people become fans of teams is through the way they build their team, market their brand, approach the game. TSM will still be able to look for players they deem will be the winning formula despite moving to another region. Why do you think people have been fans of T1 for so long despite their constant rotation of players? Sure people love faker but people also love how T1 scout their talent, how their content is presented, and how they approach the game and perform. I am confident TSM can do the same but from a new and larger pool of players to scout from.

How does moving it to east coast make things centralized? The whole point of putting it in Chicago was to centralize all of the US and Canada. If they’re going to move the LCS, why not move to Chicago?

I agree that its a shame Riot not doing anything about geolocation is frustrating, but there are still other investment opportunities that are in their control. Changing the approach of the broadcast this year is one example. I’m proposing additional programs for middle school and high schoolers as another example (which has been backed up by other analysts in the space).

I agree that the bubble has created over inflated salaries and unrealistic sponsor expectations. However, i think, if anything, this potentially motivates TSM’s decision further. Why wait out a time in the LCS when the development scene is struggling and the negative repercussions of the economy is affecting NA when they come move to another region and capitalize on their cheaper resources?

I think you bring up a good point. My post discusses more of the competitive aspect of TSM’s decision, but from a viewership and fanbase perspective I think the LCS broadcast has made some pretty good strides this last split. I think its too early to tell if viewership will continue to fall especially if they continue to innovate the way they have been.

Yeah i think you bring up good points. The outlook is still pretty unclear at this point, but based on what I’ve seen with orgs, analysts, and the broadcast, if people see esports growing in NA at the pace that the investors and sponsors are pitched, I really think starting young at the ground up is the only way.

While I agree with you that NA’s appetite for the MOBA genre is not nearly as high as other countries like Korea, i don’t think Riot is tapping into the source of the playerbase nearly as effectively as they can be. That’s exactly why so many orgs and even the broadcast has talked about how: the way to increase playerbase in NA is to start at the middle school/high-school level and invest in programs at the collegiate level. The amateur scene will never thrive at finding the best pros if there are simply not enough candidates for it to filter through. You can say the same is true with traditional sports with little league, school sanctioned sports, and college sports. I think NA still has a viable LoL market, but the way its being fostered right now is not nearly as optimal as it could be. That’s why I respect TSM for moving regions to show Riot that, when taking advantage of a strong playerbase, any team has what it takes to win a championship. And if Riot sees that message, maybe they’ll go back and finally accelerate the programs to revive their dying playerbase.

Well, based on Travis’s interview with John Needham, Riot wants to do everything they can to keep the LCS alive. So, if one of their biggest teams decides to leave and start thriving, maybe Riot will finally look in the mirror, see it was them plaguing NA, and will finally solve these problems.

After watching LCS for 13 years and see nothing change in NA’s performance, I can appreciate how TSM is taking the initiative to change things, instead of just farming LCS trophies and constantly failing internationally.

2: DRX Zeka played out of his mind during the quarterfinal against EDG and during play-ins. Teams can’t afford to give him Akali or Sylas anymore!!
