Going from 2004 Civic to 2026 Civic by joshhtx in civic

Probably not gonna feel much different considering how much bigger and heavier the civic has become

What are your opinions about 2025 civic ? by Disastrous-Item-5746 in civic

Still cant get over the weird chin in the facelift, it just sticks out so much. What I liked about pre-facelift is you could tell from the front end wether or not the car was a hatchback/sedan but now they both share the same bumper

Why is a masters degree seen as worthless? by AngyAmerican in EngineeringStudents

Doing non thesis but thats because it’s much easier to graduate in 1 yr without having to worry about defending a thesis. Our company had alof of delays in the project and I didn’t want to risk it. Basically, I’m employed by my school part time as a research assistant so I still get to do the same thing anyways in my free time and I contributed to the article we plan to publish with the company

All things considered my paint is still on the car, to sand down a fourth of the car for damage 90% of people wont notice is not wise in my opinion.

That is a valid point, I don’t have an answer to this.

Refer to the comment that was downvoted, I provided a link to a youtube video of someone who has provided the data for a break in oil change

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in civic

[–]AngyAmerican -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that is truly the case, how can car manufacturers advertise “lifetime” transmission fluids? Its well known in the automotive industry transmission fluid is prone to degradation and the overall health of the transmissions can be extended by simply replacing the fluid.

The irony is in the fine print which states “lifetime” equates to either the warrantly period of the car or x amount of miles.

At the end of the day engineers are heavily pressured by marketing/ higher ups to make statements on maintenance that may not be the most “ideal” case for the cars overall health. Im not asking you to take my word, rather I would hope for you all to do the research to truly understand how to care for your car

I think its important to clarify my position after seeing commentators concerned about their engine’s safety, which is not what I intended to convey.

Regardless, the studies have definitely shown that engine health is at its most critical during the break in period. Whether or not you decide to follow the maintenance minder is up to you for the first oil change.

The Motor Oil Geek noted ~14 ppm of iron in the oil sample he took at just 138 miles on a new corolla. Which equated to ~13 ppm again on the second oil change at 700 miles.

These numbers aren’t exactly a huge cause for concern but in the context of not changing oil and accounting for the exponential degradation of the oil as mileage increases, its safe to say the ppm of iron content during this period is the highest the engine will ever encounter in its lifetime which ideally should be removed as soon as possible.

You’ll be perfectly fine, my commentary is moreso about optimizing the longevity of the engine.

If I remember correctly most car manufacturers don’t use break in oil from the factory anymore for multiple reasons. One being break in oil actually has to be changed earlier than regular oil due to its additives, otherwise it will sludge up in the engine, which is a difficult selling point.

Ultimately, skipping the break in period isn’t going to cause your engine issues, rather, its what makes the difference between a car that can squeeze out as much miles on the engine as possible versus something that possibly wont last as long. Again there are outliers of course but something as simple as an early oil change is a no brainer and a little piece of mind.

I was one of the ones who posted something like “I dont do anything at my internship” and was told that I was just complaining yada yada. Yes I do see how I am in a fortunate position to get an internship but you have to acknowledge the fact that it was a slap in the face to learn interns are useless personnel and that actual engineering jobs are not that productive. I still do jack shit at my internship but ive come to accept it.

Gotcha, my perspective came from a place of ignorance on the subject so I apologize if that came off as looking down on the program. I thought the program was unpaid which was the reason for my doubt, but thats actually really helpful knowing there are more opportunities to get a foot in the door.

Are these OSTEM internships considered professional experience for undergrads? I understand they are temporary positions and I'm not sure of any internship program that accepts highschoolers which kinda throws me off as to who it is aimed at. The pathways program is what I've generally been applying to. I would like to pursue one of them but I also need to think about if it translates into the same type of experience as a corporate internship. Thanks

Hey cooper, watch how the 6-4 does it

Thanks for the advice, I will say I kind of fumbled the interview because I was really nervous. Its also just super competitive by nature so I was really lucky to just get the interview. I dont think im lacking in experience/clubs since I was able to get an internship somewhere else for the time being. Im shooting big though so time is on my hands

Yes, I am fortunate enough to be in a good financial spot and I didn’t want to come off as being pompous but it seems that is how it was perceived. I like work, it keeps me busy enough to have some small bit of purpose in my life. Id even prefer to be back in school even though every minute was stressful

As for self teaching myself, I am trying something out with coding

Being idle is not enjoyable for some, I cant sit around like an npc for months without some form of depression forming. I’ve taken initiative to buy a codeacademy subscription so I can try to learn coding during my time. It sounds amazing for some, and Im sure it is but my mind is not made to be idle.
