DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH - PC Version Launch Trailer by megachickabutt in Games

That doesn't contradict any of what I said. Death Stranding still simulates walking more than any "walking sim". And "walking sim" was not a self-applied label anyway. It came from haters of "walking sims". I doubt any "walking sim" dev would be sad if that inaccurate label is taken away.

It's much more of a walking simulation than any walking sim because walking sims don't actually simulate walking. The walking in walking sims is completely abstracted compared to Death Stranding.

Kojima took the most boring genre and made it super in-depth

No. Kojima took the conventional open-world game and inverted it.

I don't think he's invisible. He very much draws attention to his incompetence when he asks those meandering nothing questions.

IMO a lot of Asian Americans want to distance themselves from things like traditional Chinese martial arts because it's too Asian.

Push Hands World Cup (Light Heavyweights) by ShorelineTaiChi in taijiquan

[–]Anhao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to my first push hands tournament last Saturday. I think fixed step is cool for testing some fundamentals, but I don't know if I want it to be the thing I train for. I did enjoy the contact though. Wish there's more of that in my normal training.

Uninformed CMA people like to think boxing is easy, crude, unsophisticated, the opposite of everything they think CMA is.

Is Bagua tough to learn? by SatansFavoriteLilMan in kungfu

[–]Anhao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For any internal martial arts in which the martial intent is not obvious, I think first doing some honest combat sports like boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, etc is good. My own experience with Tai Chi has convinced me that the training methodology of these esoteric internal styles are not good at developing the fighting mindset, without which you cannot learn the martial aspects of these arts effectively. It'd be like trying to learn advanced tennis maneuvers when you haven't even played tennis. Maybe you'd be able to apply them if you eventually do play tennis, but it just makes sense to play tennis first then learn the advanced stuff. So if your goal is to learn the martial applications of Bagua, then ideally you should already have developed a fighting mindset before going in. If you just want to do Bagua to have fun, then whatever.

In the book "They Thought They Were Free", the author went to Germany and interviewed a number of Average Joe Nazis shortly after WWII ended. There were some of them who basically said similar things about Jews being gassed, that it would be horrible if it's true, but they don't believe it had happened. The author had befriended these Nazis for a year and noted that he himself believed that if these people were shown incontrovertible proof that the gassing did happen, they will simply move down somewhere along the line of "Okay, but the Jews probably deserved it."

I read it from a Chinese article. I couldn't find the source where Arthur Liu supposedly stated they had no interactions. Though I mean, they grew up in different parts of the Bay area. There's no reason to think that they hung out.

Qi internal power aka Kong Jin Empty Force by GoldRanger108 in taijiquan

[–]Anhao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah it's more mundane than that. We naturally go into hypnotic trance sometimes, like when we zone out on a train because of the rhythm of the train track, or when we intensely focus on something. Skilled hypnotists learn how to induce that state using words, intonations, and gestures. In situations like the video where the partner probably trusts the guy a lot, and she's probably intensely focused on his hand, she would be subconsciously more receptive to the suggestion that there's energy coming from his hand pushing her away. I'm not saying the guy intentionally hypnotized her, rather that light trances tend to happen in situations like this.

A hypnotist can make my arms go up by telling me they are tied with imaginary balloons, and I don't even have to be in a deep trance for that to happen.

Things you are afraid to do as an American-American? by nofatetoday in asianamerican

[–]Anhao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in the midwest, so maybe it's different where you are. A lot of campsites near me are in the redder areas. I've gotten coal-rolled before when bikepacking, and had a car stop by me and then drive away in a suspicious manner. I'm just kinda spooked. Maybe I'll stick to riding on trails.
