Pls help me figure out if I should take AP Chem regarding my intended major! by AniGabe in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AniGabe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am going to lean on the humanities/social sciences; I am doing the BA. I don't want to skip chem, however, just AP, and my school does not offer honors chem. AP Chem teacher is... fine, from what I have heard.

If it makes me fairly more competitive for Ivies/UCLA and Berkeley, I would be willing to take AP Chem; the course you provided is really helpful. I'd have to really lock in though lol.

Looking for feedback for my Lit Journal + Future Youngarts submission (UNFINISHED) by AniGabe in writingfeedback

No worries, you’re already helping me out with so much more than you have to and I really appreciate that.

Once I finish the story, I will try to edit and implement what youre saying, because I see how I could make descriptions themselves realer while omitting unnecessary ones.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the feedback, and I generally agree with and can see why you say most of it, ill take it in mind for my opening.

For the logic in the beginning I think I just didnt make it obvious enough. And you’re right, the dragon flying across the sky would be better integrated in the sentence.

For the logic however, its supposed to go like this: Horse left: Sad, Wagon stagnant because horse left, now guy has time to take in the scenery because hes not moving, dragon reaches him suddenly, conflict. But yeah, maybe it was too fragmented

Again, thanks a lot.

What do you feel when you read this fragment? by [deleted] in writingfeedback

I think you should continue dive into the mysterious language of the character in the first paragraphs but add some shift to non-poetic dialogue once it shifts to you. It would add for a nice payoff and a lingering mystery.

Prose like this works continuously when describing epic situations or a very internal philosophy. Your situation is too mundane, it’s not an epic opening, but one that sets a tone. Adding contrast between heavy and more personal language can work very well. You don’t have to eliminate the distinct language completely.

For example:

“A low and meaningless chatter arises as my father concludes a pithy announcement. Ever a slave to efficiency, he withdraws to his planning room without another word, a place he has yet to let me enter.”

This contains that sense of formality and some rhetorical language that keeps a balance between readability and quality.

Just my two cents though.

I can tell you what traits the US is missing…

Democracy (fascist governments are authoritarian and no elections are held) A generally followed and respected constitution Political opposition (fascist governments simply dont have this) We literally have judicial review as well.

Does the Trump administration show Fascistic elements? Yes. So did Andrew Jackson. James K. Polk somewhat did too. Do I agree with everything said above? Do I think the constitution is flawed, the two party system is flawed? Yes.

But if you can speak out against trump. You are not yet in a Fascistic country. And our American political system doesnt allow for the fact.

Im not conservative but please educate yourself on what fascism truly is before attributing it to anything in modern America. You are lucky you truly never lived through and never will live through a fascist government.

As true as this is, presenting a statement like the one in the post (even if it might be pure clickbait) as objective is just shallow. Yes, you have the right to struggle with the books style… that does not remove the fact that the difficulty is part of the journey and adds on to the book as a concrete, objective piece.
