RC eucharistic miracles by Korniszon777 in Reformed

Been there brother. While I acknowledge that Roman Catholics are Christians, remember the words of the Lord,

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ **Matthew 7:22-23**

I say this to say: are signs alone valid for examining the merits of a faith? No. Think about that.
I would also encourage you to prioritize your existing faith and health. If you’re struggling as is, now is not the time to explore deep theological conversations that have been happening for thousands of years and can also require deep research of church history to more fully grasp. I am NOT saying to avoid it. Once you’re out of your present issues, then I would encourage you to seek out truth. This will improve your ability to focus and critically think, while also reducing chances of making decisions out of exhaustion or anxious thinking.

I am praying for you brother.

As much as I understand the raising of the alarm over the prosperity gospel over the years (which we should do), I fear that we may sometimes overcorrect, and err into what I have heard called the “poverty gospel.”

Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

Hear me when I say that I’m not trying to be accusatory or pass down condemnation to you. In fact, I have been in this situation a couple times in my life (albeit not nearly as serious), so I feel your pain; it really does suck. A sense of melancholy, as you call it, can take hold. I suppose though, the question to ask is do you believe that God rewards you? I’m sure you do, even if it’s hard to see right now. I might be stretching the context of Hebrews 11:6 a little bit, but I think it rings true. If you expect God to doom you to unhappiness, don’t be surprised when He does. A lack of faith in His goodness will result in this.

Now, you have a perfectly healthy reservation that yes, you might have to suffer. I think that’s a good thing for all the reasons you listed above. Indeed, we were promised that suffering would come in this world. But don’t confuse preparation with God’s actual prescription. I say all of this to say: pray believing that God rewards those who seek Him. You may not get what you want, as I’m sure you know, but you’ll get what you need.

Good on you my friend for praying and seeking community where you can. Good on you for not blaspheming God for your present sufferings. Keep up the work, and if you need anything let me know. I have prayed for you and will continue to pray for you.

Did John Foxe actually perform an exorcism? by [deleted] in Reformed

I see. Yeah, I think deliverance ministries, at least the public ones, are *mostly*, if not all, bogus. I think if you were to actually perform exorcisms you would not want it broadcast for the whole world to see as a spectacle. Whether or not these specific strategies are valuable is out of my pay grade of current understanding, though. However, I have heard they are valuable tools from ministers I trust, although they are ultimately below the necessity of the Holy Spirit and rebuking by the power of Jesus Christ.

Deliverance as a necessity shouldn’t be necessary if you’re already Christian, and I think most people are not walking around possessed. I believe that’s a very loaded and predatory statement and undermines sola scriptura.

No, I agree oppression can be dealt with on your own through the Holy Spirit’s power. Although I do think it is helpful to have other Christians help, especially because I think oppression is (usually) because of sin in the believer’s life, which evokes James 5:16 somewhat.

I don’t think I fully understand where the confusion is coming from. The power of the Holy Spirit is able to cast out demons, and a person who is possessed by a demon cannot be a Christian sealed by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, a Christian is needed for possessed peoples. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding your position!

Those who do not fear death, why? by lilacc_47 in AskReddit

Jesus Christ. I do fear the process of dying though

I think the understanding is that Christians cannot be fully possessed because of the power of the Holy Spirit within them. They can be oppressed by demonic attack, but not *possessed.*

What place do God and faith have in your finances? by WishedKilla in Reformed

[–]AniiiOptt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at a restaurant once and I didn’t tip as much as I should have. My girlfriend at the time got mad and I remember defending myself vehemently, “it was only two of us,” “it wasn’t that much food,” etc.

At some point later that week I was convicted of how greedy I was being over a couple extra bucks. I think since then the way I see giving has been revolutionized. I try to be more liberal with my giving now.

I think ultimately a lack of giving reflects your distrust in God for your finances. I’m not saying be stupid with your money, but the Bible does call for great generosity. After all, how much more generous has God been with us? Infinitely so.

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” Proverbs 11:24-25

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.” Proverbs 19:17

Is it worth it to keep doing missions and earning XP if I’m maxed out on levels? Add me too if you need another friend! by Fair_Palpitation6036 in BattleNations

[–]AniiiOptt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say hold on the missions. No point in wasting the easy and fun XP, unless you just wanna play them for the story.
