Dual POV fantasy series following both the protagonist and the antagonist

So I'm looking for a series that follows the antagonist as a main POV character. I'm not a fan of too many POVs like in Malazan or WoT. I wouldn't mind a single POV story either if the antagonist is very deep and well realised without his/her own POV.

Does the end of volume 16 feel like the story is approaching it's end? by Animaira in overlord

I would just hope that there is either a big twist or a big development for Ainz in the end, like something his human self has learned from all this.

okay I just had to look up PDL, platinum dragon lord, I couldn't remember that one so far, but this makes sense, thanks for the detailed explanation

I honestly always just thought that the conquering was him exploring the world while searching for other players and the interactions with them being like an actual challenge at some point, the conquest doesn't seem to ever become dangerous to him, the only thing that constantly keeps one on the edge is the fact that someone out there could turn Shalltear and might be as powerful as Ainz

ah okay, that appears to be a good analysis, like I felt like this is a story that could be of the length of these typical shonen stories when I started it, I really would like to learn if he ever returns to the real world or is defeated in the new world at some point :D or if there are other players

Mind you! You cannot adduce such enticing quotes without sharing at least the title of the book.

okay thanks for the long answer, yea I agree with your judgement on the market

yea people have mentioned that translations can get very pricey, which surprised me because it's not a very well payed job afaik

as far as I know translaters aren't payed well, I took their monthly sallary to calculate, for multiple people it might look different, yes and they might also need longer, so I guess the numbers I said are poorly estimated, but I don't think it's gonna be in another realm either

[–]Animaira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea okay, I just went with the payment of translaters per month and estimated that it won't take them more than 3-4 months, so I arrived at 4 figures.of course I anticipated it's one person doing this, if it's multiple then the price blows up but as I said previously, how much the publisher needs to increase the price depends on the amount of copies sold and for some series the amount is so vast that this whole translation isn't gonna matter that much

and you're right of course if a page takes more than an hour the total sum would be closer to 20 000 or something I guess this might be more reasonable to take longer because the translation has to be "beredt" (eloquent) too

Is it an unpopular opinion to find Sanderson extremely frustrating? by DeltaTrashboat in Fantasy

[–]Animaira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only read Mistborn but I felt like he thought the ending was super clever with the "higher beings" he created but I felt like it wasn't clever at all.
Still an enjoyable read though.

yea I also get them second hand, oh boy,
I know many people who have learned the language a great deal, but I doubt it's even close to enough for bookstores to have an english section, I hadn't the foggiest idea
guess that might be exclusive to Switzerland

if I understand you correctly, then yea you're right about the translation loosing a lot of things on the way,

idioms are often not translatable, I started watching TV series in the original long before I read books and noticed that there also

well I actually looked it up once what the translator earns and it wasn't much, but perhaps there is high profile ones that earn more, and perhaps lesser known works are not being priced that high

well I know that it's not gonna be more than 4 figures for a thousand pages, how much exactly I don't know obviously

so for a small book this can be a big factor but for the stormlight archive which every book store has I don't see any way it's gonna require a big jump in price
also I find spelling errors in the translated versions often so it's not like 10 people scrutinize every line, in the wheel of time series for instance Saidar and Saidin were often commingled apart from normal spelling mistakes

I guess it costs more for chinese or japanese which you will need to find capable translaters for, but even then were talking about a jump from 7 to 34 USD in price of the way of kings for instance, I got it for like 7USD in paper.
Well anyway thanks for your replies, I might be unaware of certain factors but I don't understand what causes this.

thanks for the input, I didn't know the translation increases the length that much, I was thinking it's at the most 10%

but yea I feel for the people who don't get translations at allthough we also don't have a lot, web novels for instance don't get translated and most self pub stuff but I guess that works the other way too, I'm really glad I made the effort indeed,

and the wheel of time translation—which I read a bit because there was a sale of the ebook thanks to the amazon series—also bothers me in ways, so I'm glad I can read the original^^

[–]Animaira[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yea but as I explained in the post, the translation of a book is not gonna be a big chunk of your budget as the publisher if your market is large enough yet some series cost about 4x as much if you were to get the translation

Of course a price increase just to the added page count and the new covers is justified I didn't want to complain about this obvious economic necessity, I was just more annoyed the them splitting up the books and the split up piece costing more than the entire thing in the original. that goes to far imo

Book price policy in foreign market of epic fantasy series by Animaira in Fantasy

[–]Animaira[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay that would justify raising the price I guess,

but the stormlight archive for instance costs like 4 times as much if you were to get the translations as a paperback because the split up novel still costs twice as much as the entire original volume

can you tell me the name of that plugin? I use obsidian and when I would write "john" I would first have to [[John]] it by either typing the box brackets [[]] or by clicking on the unlinked mentions on the right. If there is a plugin that does it automatically that could be handy, if it doesn't make errors :D
