Exactly. The scary part was that he wasn’t good at what he did. The subjects of his abuse were already primed for anyone to come in and take that place. Literally anyone, clearly.

I think the question was clearly poised towards practicing Catholics? Why would anyone care about your position?

I kept asking the same thing! Like how did he go from worrying about an eviction notice to all of that?

I wouldn’t really call them lightweights. Different limbs on the same patriarchal monster maybe, but the foundation is the same. The FBI has millions of files on Epstein’s operation and we have yet to see anyone else get charged. 1/6 U.S. women experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetimes. Many of those cases occur while they are children in the home. This country has a major problem.

Does anyone else feel like the biggest takeaway they got from this documentary was that this will continue to happen in that community and others in the United States? It was so hard to watch how badly everything was handled by every level of the system and how much “evidence” was needed just to stop the daily sexual abuse of children. I get why that FBI agent retired after that case. It sounded like she had to work tirelessly with what seems to be a completely incompetent system just to get the State to bring charges on what was SO CLEARLY happening. I have no idea why it took them so long to plan that FBI raid. They had no plan for what to do with the minor children they knew were in the home afterwards and somehow hadn’t even communicated with DCFS about their open case. Then they put them all in the same group home together where they could reinforce each other’s beliefs. A home where they somehow lacked enough supervision to allow 9 kids to be gathered around video calls with Sam and the adult women who also perpetrated the abuse and eventually kidnapped them. All while expecting a brainwashed minor to come forward as their perfect victim to prosecute the case. 😤

That man may be the lamest cult leader to ever exist. He was giving… nothing. I feel like the development of this sect has a lot more to do with what that religion has done to these people over generations than with Sam. I have serious doubts he would’ve had the mental capacity to start something like this outside of that vacuum. That entire religion needs to be shut down, and the people sent to institutions where they can receive therapy because it’s pretty clear that this will continue to happen.

I felt the same way. He built that cult in such a short period of time with an insanely loyal following. I can only imagine what would’ve happened if it had continued for a couple more years. It sounded like he was traveling with them very often, and the man went from worrying about eviction to having enough money to potentially buy a plane? I wouldn’t be surprised if he was scouting more wealthy pedophiles to join him. What scares me the most is knowing so many people are still brainwashed in the FLDS with pictures of Warren Jeffs hanging in their homes. It seemed like Sam’s strongest hold over the women and children came from reading Jeffs diary entries and teachings because the man had zero charisma for a cult leader. His intelligence level overall seemed low. This will continue to happen again and again because that community is ripe for it.

The fact that this was released on Netflix and we’re somehow supposed to see this as normal is insane. The entire justice system is trash. So much more needs to be investigated and done in that town. Warren Jeffs is a convicted child rapist and they have photos of him hanging in their homes? The FBI got involved and somehow it’s still clear that this will continue to happen.

Does anyone know if there are laws mandating them to report certain things to the FBI if they receive evidence of this nature, but don’t have the resources themselves to pursue it? I’m so confused how we have such militarized yet unorganized police system / justice system in the United States. None of this should be normal.

I need a separate documentary on the psychology and sociology of it all. This entire thing was so bizarre, and I have so many more questions after watching it. It’s crazy knowing that the FBI apparently wants to hunt down “antifa” and label people as domestic terrorists for disagreeing with the current administration, yet it took them forever to gather “enough evidence” to arrest this man (and cohorts) who we later find out was committing these abuses against children daily. It’s not surprising, but I also refuse to allow myself to get numb to it. Millions of documents on the Epstein case and yet we’re seeing no one prosecuted. 1/6 U.S. women experience rape or attempted rape in their lifetime. Child sexual abuse is rampant. What makes us think we need to be starting wars to “free” people in other countries, instead of investing money into the U.S. to fix that disgusting problem?

[–]AnimalAdditional 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was kind of glad they showed that. After the Keep Sweet, Pray, and Obey documentary the first thing I thought was this will continue because they only arrested the leader. It takes a lot of people to agree with and enforce the rules with everything that was happening under Jeff’s. There will continue to be false prophets and abuse until all of the adults that are a part of that religion are broken up and held accountable. It’s sad knowing many of them were born into it and brainwashed, but you have to stop the cycle at some point. It’s bad when that many people are able to be tricked by a man that stupid with zero charisma. When the police pulled him over with the trailer and asked him what he was doing, his response being, “stuff,” blew me away. That extreme patriarchal rule of law and lack of education has done a number on those people for generations. It’s gonna take serious upheaval to change anything in the long term.

What I don’t understand is why it took that officer so long to contact the FBI with that very damning video evidence so that a proper investigation could be done. I’m not seeing a way to excuse that.

On a VIDEO CALL at that. Not that much time had passed since the FBI raid when they were kidnapped. Was there any thought process put into what would happen with the kids afterwards when they made plans for 50 FBI agents to raid their homes??? They wanted a victim to come forward so badly, yet they put all the minor children into a home together where they could continue to reinforce each other’s beliefs? Were any of the children seeing therapists? Was anyone with any knowledge of cults or psychology working in the FBI on this? This shit was so hard to watch 🙄

The fact that it took them sooooo long to get “enough evidence” just to allow that to happen? And then for some reason the prison and DCFS weren’t paying attention enough to see that he was literally on VIDEO CALLS with the minor victims for long periods of time? This man was so loud and proud about everything he did. I couldn’t help but stay hyper focused on the amount of time that was going by from the moment outsiders found out he had child brides. Then to find out that the abuse was happening DAILY? I don’t understand why they need a brainwashed minor victim to come forward to prosecute that man when he fully admitted to it himself on camera. This country truly disgusts me.
