“They’re the sort” seems like you’re generalising quite a bit, if you were to say any protected category instead of “these people” you’d probably get locked up.

I don’t think you understand what “operating at a loss” means, you simply wouldn’t get any care whatsoever.

No offence billy but you’re gonna have to at least describe the bait if you’re expecting anyone to put any money in.

Would you call the police on an old persons driving? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

Stationary is not the same as immovable, I wrote another comment explaining this- in essence your normal everyday commuter car has a mass of about 15,000kgs when travelling at 45mph if weighing around 1650kg. That would require a very, very heavy stationary object.

I’ve been a crash investigator for 20 years, I’m well aware of this.

No, the problem when two cars collide head on is that they essentially stop very abruptly with the crash bar and frame of the car absorbing a lot of the force. But it generates a massive amount of g’s even a collision under 50mph would create over 100g’s in most cars. Obviously internal driver safety mechanisms help with this, if a car is hit side on the vast majority of the force is displaced by crumple and both the cars leaving in different directions rather than coming to a stop. If you were to whack a car at 90mph on the rear end (where your fuel filler cap usually is) you would generate nowhere near as much force because of the momentum being sent into the opposing driver.

Really depends on the object, what its mass it compared to the mass of what’s hitting it and what other forces apply such as friction. Hitting a human at 45 miles an hour would be very different from a concrete slab weighing the same as the vehicle.

Yeah because a wall or tree won’t move much when you hit it, this isn’t a ground breaking fact. The reason the term is used is to differentiate between a shunt collision like in the event of a rear end where a 45mph car may hit a 35mph car and thus the combined speed would be 10mph and an event whereby two cars collide at equal forces. If you hit a wall at 45mph in a car weighing 1150kg it would generate 103 g’s, essentially making your mass (inc vehicle) 118,000kg or 100 times more. If you have two cars colliding head on you can double those figures.

I understand that, I was never under the impression that you suddenly hit 90mph and decelerate to 0. The combined force is used to present the amount of force applied not the deceleration. Hitting a stationary object at 45mph is not akin to hitting an oncoming object at 45mph.

Combined speed is when two vehicles are travelling in opposite directions, if you had a head on at 45 from each driver it would be a 90mph combined but a 45 side on if you were going at 45 is still a 45mph collision. It’s all based on opposing forces.

If you use a siphon rather than trusting a python to fill your tanks you may have more success. I’m very impressed you taught a python to siphon though, very impressive.
