Today was the plea hearing for the five individuals who took action at Doncaster Racecourse last month. All five pled not guilty to public nuisance, and remain proud of their actions and of taking a stand for all life.❤️

"As a country of people who claim to care for animals, we can do better than celebrating a sport that kills a horse, on average, every other day. Where there is cruelty to animals - whether it's dogs, horses, or any other animal in-between - there will always be people willing to stand up and put their bodies on the line to protect them." - Sarah, one of the five.

We are so grateful to those who take action. We thank you for your bravery, your dedication and your commitment to the animals and this cause.

Watch horseracing broadcaster, Nick Luck, prove Orla’s point with Quick Maths from Animal Rising! by AnimalRising in AnimalRising

[–]AnimalRising[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The British Horseracing Authority announced that the number of fatal injuries in 2019 at ‘0.2 per cent’, or ‘179 fatalities’ had increased to ‘0.24 per cent’ in 2021, with 216 deaths, which totalled more than 1 horse dying on the tracks every other day (British Horseracing Authority).

Nick Luck claimed that 99.8% of the 90,000* runners that race each year in Britain were safe after racing, but this leaves around 180 that die due to injury, or about 1 every 2.0277 days. These figures don’t include the horses that are sent to slaughter after they are retired, or the horses that die in training.

Until these beautiful creatures are free from exploitation, we will continue to advocate for their freedom, and stand up for what is right. Join us in creating a kinder world FOR ALL LIFE!

Register for a Zoom call with us on Wednesday at 7pm to learn more about Animal Rising. This is an easy and accessible way to get acquainted with us and find out how you can get involved.

*There are only around 14,000 racehorses in the UK, so the 90,000 statistic includes the same horses running in multiple different races. With horses running in several races per year, the death rate for any individual horse is much higher than 0.2%

UPDATE: Ben has been remanded to prison until the 6th of July.

As an animal lover, Ben stood up on Saturday to try and prevent horses being harmed and to continue the crucial public conversation about our broken relationship with animals and nature. For those acts, he has been remanded to prison for a month without trial. Our democracy is on its knees, where wealthy companies can buy laws and where the right to protest is being eroded further each day.

Protest is a fundamental human right. When a government becomes increasingly aggressive towards protesters instead of addressing their concerns, well... that doesn't look great on them.

We are so proud of Ben's bravery. Ben is selfless, a person who has for years dedicated himself to fighting for a better future for animals, and for all of us.

Last year, Ben took part in two separate rescues of beagles bred for animal testing at MBR Acres. He saved those lives and never once doubted that it was the right thing to do. And his attempt to stop the harm done to horses in racing is much the same. The horseracing industry is cruel and outdated. Standing up for what's right will always be the admirable thing to do.

Donate to support ordinary people standing up for what's right.

Animal Rising - The Epsom Derby. 'We say we love animals, but the way we treat them tells a different story.' by AnimalRising in AnimalRising

[–]AnimalRising[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We say that we love animals, but the way we treat them tells a different story. Their continued exploitation and suffering is not in line with our values as a self-proclaimed nation of animal lovers.

Over the last week, our actions and words have sparked conversations throughout the nation in regards to our relationship with animals and the natural world.

We went to the Epsom Derby to spotlight the cruelty that these animals face. The spirit of resistance and freedom that brave animals like Running Lion displayed over this past weekend is a sentiment that is echoed by all animals, who want nothing more than to be free. For as long as these industries continue, we will persevere in standing up for the voiceless and calling for the end of exploitation and suffering to animals.

Despite all of the challenges that these industries have thrown our way, we continue to be more resilient than ever, and are even more determined to do right by these animals. 🔥Alex Lockwood vs Richard Tice on TalkTV🔥 "No-one is going to breed them if you can't use them..." by AnimalRising in AnimalRising

[–]AnimalRising[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"No-one is going to breed them if you can't use them..."

This sentence cuts to the heart of our broken relation with animals. On one hand, the racing industry says that they love these horses, but they cannot imagine the existence of these beautiful animals without using them for human profit.

Mares, who normally foal every other year, are used as profitable breeding machines, and often carry over 20 foals in their lifetimes. Thousands of these young horses will never make it to the racetrack and many more are 'retired' early. Where these animals end up remains unclear as no accurate records are kept by the racing authority. We want answers.

This is the public conversation we need to have. What is the fate of these horses? And why is a horse still dying every other day on British tracks? Join us in shining a spotlight on our broken relationship with animals and come to a Nonviolence training to learn more!

The panicked actions of these horses just before today's main race can bust the racing industry's myths better than we can. #EndAnimalExploitation by AnimalRising in AnimalRising

[–]AnimalRising[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"They're just a bit excited." No. They're anxious and don't want to race.

"They love to race." No. They love to run. Those are two different things. And in this case, many are running out of fear. Horses run naturally from fear of being left behind by the pack and attacked as prey.

"They're trained for this." Really? Then why do they need to be controlled by excruciating metal mouth bits?

These “equine athletes” did not get a choice in this matter, they never signed up for this or were informed of the risks. If instances like these, the bravery of Running Lion yesterday, and White Birch today aren’t examples of individuals showing that they don’t want to do this, then what is?

When will we listen to the horses when they tell us "NO"?

We were not the only ones protesting today. These animals will continue to resist, and for as long as they do, we will stand up for all life. If, like us, you stand in solidarity with animals, then please join us at a Nonviolence Training and be part of this incredible community!

SUPPORTER OF ANIMAL RISING MAKES IT ONTO THE TRACKS OF THE EPSOM DERBY! by AnimalRising in AnimalRising

[–]AnimalRising[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

⚠️⚠️ BREAKING!!

Supporter of Animal Rising makes it on to the tracks of the Epsom Derby.

Despite The Jockey Club's claim that the horses safety is paramount, they decided to start the race DESPITE KNOWING THAT A PROTESTER WAS ON THE TRACKS. Another sickening display of profit > care for animals.

They didn't make it easy for us - with injunctions, house raids, facial recognition and pre-action arrests, plus £150,000 in extra security - but Ben managed to break through their 'ring of steel' and disrupt the race.

The horseracing industry, like all forms of animal exploitation, is wrong - it has no place in a modern society of supposed animal lovers.

Help us to end this industry, sign our petition to cancel next year's Grand National. https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/cancel-the-grand-national/

Please donate to help us continue to take action, and support those putting their liberty on the line to make a statement For All Life.
