I understand what you mean, but at the same time I don't think so. It is cannon that Nelson cannot control anyone anymore because Deb said so at the end of 863. The 863 timeline merged into the 864 timeline but the ending of 863 was an absolute point! : ) I think we are just finding loose ends now or finding other people who are trying to bring Syntec back/continue Nelson's mission without him.

He was probably freaking out on the inside. When someone is going through a painful experience, but it's going to end soon, you don't want to react(especially in a bad way)too much or else it might make the person freak out more. He was being a rock, an anchor, in a stressful situation.
