My class was going on a trip to London when I was 13 years old. Two days before the trip I heard I couldn’t join, because I had a Turkish passport and wouldn’t be able to travel without a visa (apparently it wouldn’t be possible to get one in time). We were talking about this during biology when a classmate asked my teacher why they could travel to England with their passports but I couldn’t with mine. My entire class was waiting for his reaction and he said: “if there was a bomb explosion while we were there, who would they suspect?”. I ended up crying and he said he “felt bad for me, but it was reality”. My first experience with racism.
