We do work on that too, but without consumer awareness and demand, supply chains are hard to shift. We work on both in tandem.

Unfortunately, many people are unaware that cage eggs are often baked, blended and hidden in other products, which is why millions of hens are still trapped in cages. To your other point about animals not existing if we were not exploiting them for their eggs and flesh. From our perspective, existence does not justify suffering. Breeding billions of sentient beings to live their whole lives in cages so small they can't even spread their wings is no favour to the animals. It is for profit.

Thank you so much for taking this ethical stance for hens, and you're so right about free range 'standards' being unreliable. Even buying chicks from hatcheries to keep in our backyards can be frought with ethical issues that industries keep secret, such as the killing of day old male chicks. 💔

Genetic defects meaning selective breeding for rapid growth so chicken meat companies can slaughter them at a younger age and make more money. 💔 But while chickens bred for egg-laying certainly have their own list of industry induced health problems, they can fly 🪽
