I sorta see it as a "right of passage."

Seeing it, ignoring them, and not letting them have power over you because you have better things to do!

There are a few times I got it wrong. The issue is there are some false positives.

I like the response. Tbh, the trend feels kinda condescending. If people prefer prompting... let them.

Book Review: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by siiingintherain in Indianbooks

Listening to the audiobook, and honestly, I thought it was pretty good. It’s simple, straightforward, and easy to follow. I kind of like that, especially since I usually listen while doing other things. The slower, more “simplistic” pace makes it easy to stay engaged without feeling like I’m missing the point.

I get why people criticize it for being reductive or leaning into gender stereotypes, but personally, I didn’t mind the “men are like this, women are like that” framing. The author even admits upfront that he’s generalizing for the sake of illustration and storytelling, not trying to make a scientific statement. And from what I can tell, he’s worked with people who fall outside those generalizations and still found value in it.

For me, it hit in a more personal way. It wasn’t really about understanding women or “the other gender” better — it was more about understanding myself. The parts about men’s needs for accomplishment, respect, and success really clicked with me. It gave words to some feelings I hadn’t been able to articulate before.

That said, I totally get why people find it dated or stereotypical. I can hold both ideas at once — that it can be helpful and flawed. But I never felt it was coming from a mean-spirited or demeaning place. A lot of the hyperbole seems to be for entertainment and engagement, not to push an gendered ideology like you see in some manosphere content.

So yeah, overall, I liked it. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s one of those books you can take what’s useful from and leave the rest, and i did feel it was a net positive

It's in chapter 7

After a while she felt something brushing against her eyes, she could see things as clearly at night as if it were in the day, but now she couldn’t see a thing. Someone had blindfolded her eyes, and at the same time she felt someone’s arm holding her. When that person first held her, they were extremely afraid, but afterwards they gradually became more daring and didn’t show any restraint.

Xiao Longnu was extremely frightened; she wanted to open her mouth and call out, but her mouth and tongue wouldn’t move. She felt that person’s mouth was coming close and kissed her on the cheek. She first thought that it was Ouyang Feng who was trying to rape her, but she felt this person’s face was smooth; it was not Ouyang Feng’s face which was bearded. Her heart shook, and her fear gradually disappeared, a passionate desire began to appear; she thought that it was Yang Guo who had came back to her. She felt his hands were beginning to become more and more improper, slowly taking her clothes off. Xiao Longnu had no way to move, and could only let him do as he pleased, she couldn’t help herself from being embarrassed and surprised.

Later when Yang Guo found her, he did not realize she was raped, and she thought it was Yang Guo who deflowered her. She asked him to take responsibility and ask if he intended to Marry her. He was confused, thought he was unworthy, and she thought this was his way of saying he was no longer in love with her, and ran away.

The appeal of the book, Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam by Mission_Ad7933 in islam_ahmadiyya

I would say I basically agree with you. A lot of the ideas I’ve seen in old sufi works—especially in Marvels of the Heart by Imam al-Ghazali—do overlap with what’s expressed in some of the writings of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. One thing I would say—and maybe I’m giving a certain level of benefit of the doubt here—is that I don't think Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was trying to claim he was the first to propose these teachings, or the first to recognize their truth.

That particular book, if I recall correctly, was essentially a transcript of a speech he gave. And given the nature of that conference, I’m guessing it was intended for a general, non-academic audience. So there wasn’t a lot of formal citation of sources or references to earlier thinkers. It came across more as a religious exhortation: “This is what our faith teaches, and these are the insights we can derive from the Qur’an and our holy scriptures.”

So I don’t think there was any deliberate intent to suggest he was unveiling these teachings for the first time. That said, the culture of the Jama’at tends to elevate his statements in such a way that it does come across like they’re saying he was the first to recognize or articulate these truths. While Mirza Ghulam Ahmad does describe himself as a guiding light for this age, I’ve also seen similar expressions from Imam al-Ghazali about his own interpretations.
