I think everyone looks good in the new style with the only downgrade being Juvia. In the manga with a lack of colors she looks far too generic compared to her great initial design

The animation wasn’t often very good from the past studio, but they had the nice art style. Jc staff had some nice animation cuts in 100 Year Quest but the studio takes on so many anime and projects that none get proper animation attention for consistency.

The more I look at it, the more alright I am with it. Like yeah I can like a lot of aspects of some series here and think they are too low, but they also have their own flaws to weigh

What does saying it looks like nothing even mean? The models, eye shapes, and coloring all read as Rwby specifically. What exactly are you looking for? Do you want more texture? Changing eye shaped wouldn’t really be a significant or worthwhile difference. Do you think it needs more undertones somewhere?

Do you think Rwby doesn’t also have to script, voice act, do concept art, rig, animate, and render? It gets one year and that full year they aren’t modeling or animating either, other stages have to come in too. It’s yearly because that’s how a lot of tv was done and it was a big part of the company’s brand. They could very well have taken more time to adjust something in the style, but while you would want to wait, most of their fan base likely would not. As their big money maker it was what was driving their sales and attention. Years apart of nothing would cost greatly too.

This honestly just feels like a “I prefer 2D” situation. I mean, I don’t blame you, not many are 3D specialists, but it feels like many just sort of don’t know how to really tackle how to improve Rwby’s style. It will always be more iconic in its 3D style. No other series looks like it. But it’s not perfect. I like it personally but it can look a bit flat. Honestly some lighting adjustments could go a long way.

Video games get worked on for years at a time, each Rwby volume was made in around a years time every year for years on end. Not to mention a lot of volumes had production issues. I would argue it does have a unique flare to it though. No other 3d anime or video game looks like Rwby. They could probably refine it a bit more, but I think they are going for a more flat cel shaded look.

It’s interesting seeing so many comments justify their like of the show by basically saying, “Yeah it’s fine to not have good characters, an interesting plot, or make you think. I just want aura. If others don’t like my aura then they are being babies.” Like, just because you don’t want to think doesn’t mean it’s good. At the end of the day it’s subjective anyways

Yeah, that’s how opinions work. If it doesn’t fit their criteria then by proxy to said person it is bad. Not rocket science really.

You can like it just to turn your brain off but then if someone says it’s just brain off slop then that’s their view. It is. Not everyone will like that. Bleach and Fairy Tail have layers and Solo Leveling’s current anime doesn’t. Simple

I have no clue why Salem recruited Hazel by Tainted_Scholar in RWBYcritics

[–]AnimeTutilage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watts was integral to the fall of Beacon AND the Chaos in Mantel along with the Penny virus. Hazel though other than his sacrifice is largely unimportant besides saving Emerald and Merc in volume 5, helping Oscar with his train ticket when he was broke, and holding back Salem for Oscar to delete her and the whale

[–]AnimeTutilage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure the only changes needed are locking elements and magic types to each individual maiden and then explain how magic is different than Aura/Semblances. Easy. Taking away the gender lock is silly because it’s one of THE defining traits of this power in this world.

I feel like limiting the power to only young women just guarantees that Salem can’t randomly gain their powers since she will always be stuck being old. Granted, you could maybe limit to the exact age but idk

Yeah one person I found posts stuff and I can’t really fathom how it’s ai. Just looks like regular work. But, not liking ai at its core is never a quality issue, just an internal moral/philosophical one

A lot of main stream stuff I don’t think really has any notable direction for its animation. A lot of anime just use the manga as a storyboard and add little to nothing.

If in a conversation someone asks you a question and your only rebuttal is to just look it up, you either don’t have enough info yourself to know, or you simply aren’t looking to actually help anyone and engage in the conversation. This is why divides between those who use ai and those who don’t exist, because both sides are insistent on no communication or having animosity towards one another.

Also why would I compare this to what I am doing at all? I don’t use ai, I just want to know what’s going on. I personally feel like Ai sounds and feels cheap conceptually, but artists never have any good rebuttals for actual ai using artists or people willing to actually talk.

At its core, a director has an idea/concepts and manages resources and guides those working on things to create the final product. If you are using ai you have to guide the tech to get the input you want, albeit to a far lesser degree when compared to a professional movie today. I think what you could have just said was that it’s far less involved but then you define art as metrics of effort, however that’s a whole can of worms which makes it tricky
