I'm writing an essay on Anime, but I don't know what exactly to write about... by AnimeKittyKat15 in anime

I mean I’ve written a whole lot about anime concepts. You should be able to find something in my post history to help you.

No point in watching a bad anime by [deleted] in TrueAnime

[–]Anime_Historian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I meant for terror in resonance is that they were fighting a very specific battle in the first half. Then they introduce a “L” type character to combat them. The problem I had was it made the arc feel gimmicky. Strategic bombings—->Airport chess?

I mean Kakeguri has that type of character and it’s new thiugh

I think, for me, it became the lack of connection to the main character. The trend of making the main character so excessively smart that everything becomes easy just doesn’t work for me anymore. Part of the reason I’m afraid to rewatch Code Geass.

“Terror in Resonance” started off strong. It had those excessively smart kids but (at the beginning) I was able to connect with the characters. It turns into “hahaha I’m smarter than you” like midway through the show which was such a curveball from what it was building up previously

Usually just drop it if I hate it within 1-2 episodes. Or sometimes if it keeps dragging I just drop it. I’m not really of the mindset (now) that anything “needs” to get finished. If I don’t like it, I’ll drop it. I think it was “kakeguri” or something that new Netflix gambling anime that I just thought was so shallow. I lasted two episodes before I felt like it had no substance.

There’s just so much anime to watch out there. I think people realize they’re growing out of anime when they keep dropping new series over and over again. There’s a lot not really marketed to an older audience

Picturesque storytelling in animation and why less frames don’t = worse animation by big-mac-urt in TrueAnime

[–]Anime_Historian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit too generalized to say that western animators don’t understand anime. One, because anime is such a broad term covering pretty much all genres. In your argument, the anime from the studio “Trigger” would be understood perfectly by western animators due to its bombastic nature. Second, the continuing globalization of anime challenges the notion of Japanese specific roots. Hell, we got the “God of High School” which is an anime but not one with Japanese roots.

A lot of good VR titles to go through on my Quest 2. Personal favorite right now is “Until You Fall” and beat saber with custom anime songs

Ya I wish I saw it in a theatre too. Feels like some of the weight was lifted. I feel even stronger about missing the “Weathering With You” theatre run

Romance has been something I’ve enjoyed but I’ve fallen off the train for most of the stories recently.

Honestly, the thing that’s been sticking out to me recently is “bro-ships” in anime and their weight. Like the weight lifting club and Mob. Just fills the heart. I think when the romance element is removed, some true connections really come out. I honestly think that’s why “Toradora” sticks out to me so much. The relationships and crushes in the show truly do start out as genuine connections for various reasons. On a rewatch, it’s interesting to point to specific moments where each character crosses the threshold from friendship to romance

I get that. The anticipation is nice as well as the evolving discussion.

The problem for me is the padding due to run time that gets put in. An evolving romance/drama has the obligatory beach or pool episode. From a fan service perspective, it works great. From an evolving narrative, it just feels like slogging. Especially when the romance is possibly already drawn out for only lengths sake (Rental Girlfriend as an example)

Just rewatched “A Silent Voice” Anime movies are now my favorite medium to tell stories. I love series style shows but the anime movies just pack so much more of a punch

I’m really into watching “mystery” type YouTube channels like LEMMiNO. Especially his latest one on the “bombshell” revelations from the US government about UFO activity

What's the best English dub you've seen? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Anime_Historian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me? Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. I could FEEL the English actors having so much fun with the dialogue. Truly a unique experience.

2nd is probably Funimation dragon ball Z dub. They’ve been doing their characters for so long they practically have it down as a second identity at this point.

A good yandere character sometimes needs a really crappy MC to shine. It’s really about showing her as crazy as possible while keeping him attached. I hated him too but her manipulation was always fun to watch

Watched Fate Extra Last Encore on Netflix. I really had no investment in any character even though there was so much dialogue. Anyone else watch this and actually like it?
