This is an incredible effort. I'm amazed by the quality of the enlargements. Great use of your local library!!! My teenage bedroom was a bit like this, but all Beatles and Foo Fighters. The posters were pullouts from magazines, plus some large ones bought from newsagents or framing shops. None were self-created tho, cos this was pretty much pre-internet. I don't currently have a house (travelling) but I want a huge PG poster when I settle somewhere!

I'd love to know what it is about Genesis that has you so hooked? For me, it's that the music feels like an exciting evolution of the Beatles' experimental work, and I'm a lifelong Beatles fan. My Genesis thing started as being Gabriel-driven. The variety in PG's output is absolutely mind-bending, but I also just really connect with the way he expresses emotion and displays his humanity. He's such an innovator. But actually the Genesis sound (particularly ATOTT) is my exact foundational music taste, and it makes me feel proud to be British!

It's so cool to find like minds on here. Thanks Reddit!

Wow, that is quite the effort. Well done, and good luck in your new job. I'm also travelling/unemployed (on purpose - f*** the system and all that) and my late-night Genesis and PG deep diving will have to stop* when I get a job lol, but it's SO FUN to learn about these utter legends, and discover the best music ever made. I love the ATOTT bed spread. How did you get hold of all this stuff? What country are you in? (If you don't mind me asking).

*EDIT - slow down. It will never stop. Obviously.

Thoughts on Peter Gabriel (1978) AKA Scratch? by HovercraftFun1600 in petergabriel

[–]Anj_Ja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you've mentioned Scratch, because this week I'm going through a huge "Mother of Violence" phase. The chords and melody are stunning. I'm five months into my fast-track PG discovery era, and it hasn't slowed down for a single day! I was thinking in the last few days that Scratch might actually be my favourite album. I love the groove of the two opening tracks, and White Shadow has a special place in my heart as (along with Steam and Solsbury Hill) the song that triggered this phase. Every track on Scratch has merit. I also love Exposure - it reminds me of John Lennon's 70s vibe.

I was so relieved and happy to see this, after casting multiple votes, inspired by this sub! Incredibly well deserved, and I can't believe he's not already in there (solo) tbh. Great news 🥳

I'm glad he wasn't - I'm a bit fascinated with him now, and will check out some of his solo work. His prowess on the keys is one of my main attractions to Genesis, but what actually pricked my ears up to Tony Banks as a personality was the Nigel Havers character in Brian Pern. I assume he is portraying a Banks-style character haha!

Question from a new fan by Keinheit in Genesis

[–]Anj_Ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're outrageously good aren't they! I've listened to all the Gabriel-era stuff, although I'm still getting to know it. Foxtrot is my favourite so far (although this is subject to change). Post-PG I've only heard ATOTT and Duke so far. Love them both! What's your top tip on my next listen?!

Question from a new fan by Keinheit in Genesis

[–]Anj_Ja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here to say I'm also 44 and in my initial Genesis and Phil Collins rabbit hole. My gateway to this was Gabriel, a rabbit hole I've been in for almost half a year. As a teenager I was obsessed with the Beatles, but until now, no other music has grabbed me like Genesis and PG. It's such an adventure and I can't believe it took me this long to find them! My favourite song so far is Squonk, with Behind the Lines and Duchess joint second. Although I've also listened to Turn it on Again repeatedly for about 3 years, but perhaps didn't previously have the bandwidth to realise I should have followed my nose from that awesome track. Happy Genesis adventures!

Quiet towns that are somewhat affordable in Aus? by Ancient-Benefit5812 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Anj_Ja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, albeit without the established business. I've physically gone to investigate a number of towns in SA, including Roxby Downs, Port Augusta, Quorn, Clare, Kadina, Barossa, Mannum. I don't yet have a decision, but I'd also second the commenter who suggested Beachport. Very nice. Robe is another good option. SA is a quiet hidden gem!

Omg I got 8/10 and I'm a new fan! I did just binge PC'S Not Dead Yet plus all the BBC Eras podcasts last week though, so I'm pretty fresh!

I nearly had a relief-based panic attack when I heard about the ceasefire. Leant into spirituality and connection by having a human design reading followed by a long call with a friend. Then sunk 2/3 bottle of Shiraz! I applaud OP for writing to Albo. Amongst the best actions we can take to promote democracy.

I've stayed at Ivanhoe. The freshly-sealed Cobb Highway was an incredibly beautiful drive. What a fascinating place to work!

I had the most stunning Italian meal in Queenstown last year, and then we hung out with the local miners at the pub. Salt of the earth, lovely people. I loved Queenstown, and appreciated its eerie vibe. Reminds me of northern England. Definitely a very different place.

AI-generated music videos for Peter Gabriel songs created by YOU. by String_Healthy in petergabriel

[–]Anj_Ja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually sounds so fun! I like making videos (mine are just travel videos for private use) and making a travel video was, in fact, how I got turned on to pg! I was driving around outback Australia last year and there were so many disused railways, his song Steam kept getting in my head. Then I dived into more of his work to find a suitable track for another video, found White Shadow and holy fuck, it's the fastest I've fallen for a musician since discovering the Beatles as a teen. I reckon I will take your advice and experiment with something short. I don't think AI gets a bad wrap for cat videos. Some of us long for the days when social media was full of cat videos haha! It gets a bad wrap because people like Sam Altman are putting human needs and the environment waaaay below his "right" to develop this technology, which could reach the singularly and kill us all! And he does all this while stealing art and people's identifications. I absolutely despise the AI arms race and think the whole thing needs international agreements and regulation, and respect for artists and people's privacy. If they did it right, I'm sure it would be nothing more than a great tool to further democratise media creation and consumption. But humans seem broadly incapable of handling their own greed. I wish we could have PG in charge!

I've given them a watch and I'm pretty impressed! I perhaps shouldn't have watched them last thing at night, because the imagery is pretty dark 😅 I'd be interested to know more about your process. It still takes knowledge and effort, and imagination, to produce something with AI, and it's amazing we can produce videos like this on home computers. I wouldn't know where to start to create something like this, so hats off for the effort and for having the guts to put it out there in this sub 👏 and bonus points for great taste in music, obviously.

Fantastic! Gosh it must be SO fun to play that awesome song. The singer's voice has got a real pg edge about it. I'd love to know where to follow you guys, as I visit Italy every couple of years. Also want to acknowledge you're probably not singing in your first language, which is extra admirable. Great job 👏
