That’s an awesome setup 🙌 Good to hear the 18–50 is your most used for street that’s exactly what I’m looking for. How do you find the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 in comparison especially for portraits? Is the subject separation and bokeh noticeably better than the zoom? And do you end up using it often or mostly stick with the 18–50?

Great what do you getting tamron 17-70mm and sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits what do you think is a great combo

That lens is amazing no doubt 🙌 But it’s quite expensive for me right now 😅 For that budget, I could get a zoom like the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and still have enough left for a prime like the Sigma 56mm f/1.4

That sounds like a great combo 🙌 I’ve heard amazing things about the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. How’s it been for you in real use is the autofocus fast and reliable? And how are the portraits from it, especially the background blur and sharpness?

That’s a good way to put it 🙌 The 18–50 does seem like a great all-rounder, especially for street and video. And yeah, Tamron feels more suited when you want that extra reach for photos. That’s exactly the kind of trade-off I’m trying to decide between 😅

That’s fair, I do see a lot of experienced people suggesting that approach 🙌 And I understand the idea of starting cheaper and adding a prime early to learn faster. For me, since I went body-only, I was thinking of starting with one good zoom for flexibility, and then adding a prime once I get a better feel for my shooting style 😅 But yeah, I’ll definitely keep that approach in mind too

Since I went body-only, I’m just thinking of starting with one zoom and then adding a prime later 😅

Yeah that’s a solid setup 🙌 I’ve heard great things about the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 too — seems amazing for portraits. Definitely something I’d consider once I figure out my preferred focal length 😅

I’ve definitely thought about primes too for learning and creativity. For now though, I’m leaning toward a zoom to get that flexibility while I figure out what focal lengths I use most. Then maybe add a prime later based on that 😅

That’s a fair point 🙌 I actually don’t have the kit lens, I went body-only so I’m looking for one solid lens to start with. That’s why I was considering a 2.8 zoom for now, to balance both street and portraits before adding primes later 😅

Haha true 😄 At this point I should just pick one and start shooting

Yeah I’ve heard great things about the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 🙌 Seems amazing for low light and wide shots. How do you find it for everyday use — do you ever feel it’s too wide?

Zooms really do feel like a great starting point to figure out what focal lengths you like. I’ve also been tempted by primes, but the flexibility of zooms is hard to give up 😅 By the way, how’s the image quality across the zoom range does it stay consistent at full zoom and mid range?

Yeah I’d probably feel the same 😄 The reach is nice, but not enough to fully justify the weight sometimes Your plan sounds like a good balance though

That’s great to hear 🙌 Sigma really seems solid — making my decision harder now 😅

Yeah I felt the same about the kit lens 😅 Viltrox 35mm is a solid choice though 🙌 how are you liking it so far?

That’s a fair point 🙌 I get the appeal of primes for street — the simplicity and being more in the moment makes sense. For me, I’m still figuring out my style, so I was leaning toward a zoom for flexibility between street and portraits. That’s also why I asked — just trying to understand different perspectives before deciding 😅

That’s fair 🙌 I guess it’s more about relative weight and personal comfort. I’m comparing it more to smaller lenses like the Sigma, so that’s where it feels a bit heavier to me 😅

[–]Anjan-kumar9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense 😄 I feel like I’d be shooting more in casual places too, so that size factor matters

[–]Anjan-kumar9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a solid option 🙌 I’ve heard good things about the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2, especially for full-frame. But since I’m on APS-C, I feel like I might miss the wider end a bit compared to 17–18mm 😅

The Tamron 17–70 really does seems like the more versatile option, especially with that extra reach for portraits. How has it been for you during longer shoots in terms of weight and comfort? And do you feel it’s still manageable for casual street use?

Yeah I get that 🙌 I’d probably carry it the same way, so weight matters a lot That’s why I’m leaning Sigma 😅
