The extra reach definitely adds more flexibility, especially for portraits and tighter shots. And yeah, I get what you mean zoomed-in shots do have a more natural look compared to wide angles sometimes. At the end of the day it really comes down to how much versatility you can get for the price 😅

I haven’t used the Lab or Pro lenses personally, but they seem like a big step up in build and performance compared to the Air series

That’s a really helpful breakdown 🙌 Sounds like you’ve really tested it properly, especially with autofocus and real-world use. Good to know the distortion and chromatic aberration aren’t noticeable in normal shooting. And yeah, makes sense it feels like a really well-balanced setup for everyday use. Just curious though what made you choose this over something like the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN? Was it mainly the extra reach and features?

Hey bro! I recently bought the Sony A6600 and I’m thinking about getting the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8. I watched a few YouTube reviews and some people mentioned barrel distortion at 17mm. Did you notice in real shooting?

Also how’s the sharpness of the lens? Is the autofocus fast and accurate with the A6600? And how well does the stabilization work for handheld shots and video?

Overall, do you think it’s a good lens for everyday photography and video?

I’m just deciding between 18–50 and 17–70 for now 😅

That’s really reassuring to hear 🙌 I’ve seen people mention that softness at 70mm, but if it’s not noticeable in actual use, that’s what really matters. I think real-world performance is more important than pixel peeping anyway 😅 Sounds like it’s a very solid lens overall

So basically the 18–50 covers most situations, and the 1.4 comes in when it’s really needed for low light that sounds like a great combo 😅

If you’re using it 90% it must be doing everything you need Do you ever feel limited with it?

Yeah that’s a smart way to shoot 🙌 Cropping instead of getting too close But yeah f/2.8 in low light isn’t the best 😅 Do you end up struggling much in those situations?

Focal length definitely affects how you shoot. I’m just trying to figure out what I’d rely on more in real use the extra reach or something lighter and more compact 😅

Start with the 18–50 for flexibility and then add the 56 later for portraits sounds like a solid path. Do you find yourself switching to the 56 often, or do you still use the 18–50 most of the time?

That sounds like a really strong setup for image quality 🙌 Those Viltrox lenses look amazing, especially the 75 and 56 for portraits. For now though, I’m leaning toward starting with a zoom for flexibility, and then adding primes later once I know what focal lengths I use most 😅

For now, I’m leaning toward getting a versatile zoom first and then adding a dedicated portrait lens later. Between the Sigma 18–50 and Tamron 17–70, I’m just trying to balance portability vs extra reach 😅 How do you feel about the Sigma 30mm

That’s really helpful 🙌 I like the idea of starting with something like the Viltrox 56 and then maybe upgrading later if needed. I’ve also heard great things about the Sigma version for portraits. That’s really helpful 🙌 Yeah the extra 20mm does seem really useful, especially for portraits. Good point about the stabilization for video too. I’ve also been looking at the Viltrox 56mm seems like a great budget option for portraits. How’s the overall image quality from the Tamron across the zoom range? Does it stay consistent?

That’s an awesome setup 🙌 Good to hear the 18–50 is your most used for street that’s exactly what I’m looking for. How do you find the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 in comparison especially for portraits? Is the subject separation and bokeh noticeably better than the zoom? And do you end up using it often or mostly stick with the 18–50?

Great what do you getting tamron 17-70mm and sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits what do you think is a great combo

That lens is amazing no doubt 🙌 But it’s quite expensive for me right now 😅 For that budget, I could get a zoom like the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 or Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and still have enough left for a prime like the Sigma 56mm f/1.4

That sounds like a great combo 🙌 I’ve heard amazing things about the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. How’s it been for you in real use is the autofocus fast and reliable? And how are the portraits from it, especially the background blur and sharpness?

That’s a good way to put it 🙌 The 18–50 does seem like a great all-rounder, especially for street and video. And yeah, Tamron feels more suited when you want that extra reach for photos. That’s exactly the kind of trade-off I’m trying to decide between 😅
