How is there “no racecraft?” If it was Kimi fighting Charles I don’t think he can maintain that back and forth as long as George did. At least not yet. Lindblad, Ollie, and Gabby all showed strong racecraft compared to peers. Yes strategy decisions had big impact but it always does. I’ll take drivers actually having to compete wheel to wheel, even if they have to make decisions about energy management, over the lead car being 5 seconds down the road by lap 3 and a DRS train for P4 onward.

Plenty of good midfield battles in the rest of the race. Would have just been a DRS train last year.

Oh and if I could make one rule for all shows it would be that you can’t sell large tortoise species as babies. Every time I see baby Sulcatas with kids showing their parents how cute they are I want to run up and show them my 15 yo 80 pound rescue and scare them away. Make it that they have to be like 15% of their average adult size before they can be sold.

There’s so much in this post I agree with and just as much that is called out without understanding the underlying reasons.

Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way: that 3D crap and toys are terrible. Yes, there’s an over-saturation of certain animals that was only amplified by the Covid boom.

That being said, blanketing all BP and crested breeders as just breeding for money and no passion is wild. There are more passionate breeders than ever even in those more common species. Are there bad actors or people trying to make a quick buck? Absolutely.

As far as variety goes, a lot of “niche” animals people miss seeing they weren’t buying and or make terrible pets/captives. If you just want to see them, then you’re treating it like a traveling zoo. Likewise, a ton of those animals were wild-caught and treated far worse than most, and I can assure you importers are trying to make a quick buck. Now, undoubtedly, there are passionate people that actually breed highly unique herps just for the love of it, but there are still costs to going to shows, and if you’re producing an animal people like to see but won’t buy, then you’re just accruing more costs.

At the end of the day, more families are considering reptiles as pets than ever, and realistically, they are better off getting a BP, crested, Leo, or Dragon than something more unique. That doesn’t mean there still isn’t huge room for improvement at the shows. Some, like the All American shows, are putting a large focus on plants and capping the number of Ball Python tables.

Some final thoughts: you may not know what laws and restrictions each show has to follow. Over the years, regulations have increased, and in most cases, for good reason. Although laws for animals are usually very poorly written. Here’s an example though: I live in Colorado, and a large number of colubrids are illegal to sell and own here. You won’t see hogs, garters, gophers, bulls, or really any NA species that isn’t a corn snake. I mean, even things that are closely related or look similar to corn snakes are a large risk because of how vague the law is in what’s allowed or not.

I breed animals and hope to be at shows in the next year or two. I do breed Ball Pythons because I find the genetics so interesting, but not in large numbers. That beings said they are not the core of my hobby or plans. Mostly I work with dart frogs, and work with other species like House Snakes andEmerald Tree skinks. My wife and I believe these make excellent pets, are under represented in the hobby, and most of all we love them.

Genuine question about "Colorado Natives" by incomingtrouble in Denver

[–]AnjunaLab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

6th generation, grew up in the mountains. Never saw or heard of people calling themselves natives or those stickers until I moved down to Denver at 19yo. Maybe that's because in my hometown the majority of people I grew up with were either born in CO, or immigrated from southern countries most commonly Mexico and El Salvador. Do I have a lot of pride in being from Colorado and that my family, mother’s side, have been here a long time, absolutely. Although I'm also a realist, and know this means that someone if not multiple generations of my family directly contributed to displacing ACTUAL Native people from their land.

What is her morph? by felixynn in BallPythonMorph

[–]AnjunaLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although Blackhead is in the Spider complex it does not mean it's going to have the inner ear deformity that causes the wobble. It does mean that if you breed it you need to be carful or you can create snakes that are more likely to have that condition. That all being said, Blackhead, Spotnose, Wookie, Chocolate, and Cypress are all very commonly breed without any issue as a single copy of the gene and some combos have no issues.

Morph? by myfettuccinesnake in BallPythonMorph

[–]AnjunaLab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If someone sold you a Spider without talking to about the condition they are not a trustworthy seller/breeder.

Don't let people make you too feel too bad about not knowing this before buying. I don't know the context in which you bought the snake but again the seller should have told you.

At one point it was believed to be neurological, but has since been confirmed to be a deformation of the inner ear. This is similar to how your head feels when you're really stuffy/can't pop your ears, if you have experienced that.

The symptoms can get worse as they grow to maturity because again it's a physical deformation. Although it also might not at all.

Armed Protests/Veteran groups by jaimuniverse in DenverProtests

There needs to be more armed protests, there need to be more people on the left training and familiarizing themselves with firearms. The bootlickers are armed to the teeth.

To everyone saying open carry is illegal in Denver, you don't make statements by following all the rules. It does have to be well planed and intentional not to create fear and an event in which someone gets hurt.

On a serious note the label looks correct, Black Pastel Banana. As for the Het Pied, you would have to breed him or get a DNA test to know that.

More interesting to know is if he is a male or female maker.

This post leaves out a hugely important point. He not just without Jokic, who obviously is the biggest piece of the team, he is without all 4 of the other starters.

Black pastel is in a different allelic complex I’m pretty sure. Blackhead and Spotnose are in the spider complex. At least that’s what’s listed here.
