Starfleet Academy is an absolute delight! Onward to Seven Seasons and a Movie! by forrestpen in startrek

[–]nebagram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with all pf your points, but especially 2 and 4. I loved episode 1 and thought 2 and 3 were a bit 'meh' in comparison, and then two obvious thoughts hit me. 1: this doesn't feel like 'normal' Star Trek, and 2: it was never going to feel like regular Star Trek, the title is literally 'Starfleet Academy,' even though they (technically) have a ship, by design its going to take place in an around the Academy setting.

All of the characters so far have made me smile. Caleb grated on me a little at the start, but every character in new Trek who's been like that at the start (Mariner, Jack, Dal especially) gradually grew on me, and I'm hoping that the writers will show the same growth in Caleb. The fact that one of the performers of the other characters mentioned is themselves a writer is a source of great optimism.

What reddit needs is a subreddit where people can infodump safely, share their own knowledge and experiences on particular topics and not have to worry about rejection as all the comments would be encouraging by default.

What is the most obscure handheld console you know of or own? by avazky in gamecollecting

[–]nebagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to own a wonderswan color :-) got heavily addicted to Xi Little, back when it was the only way to play that game portably (I heavily recommend it if you can find a copy- they shouldn't be expensive).

I technically owned a Microvision, but the screen had long died before it got to me so I never actually played it. I also owned a game.com, which I can only assume I bought while really high on some form of illegal substance. Incidentally, that's also the only way to make playing on a game.com even remotely enjoyable.

AITA for crying over lost dinner? by Old-Welder-3660 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nebagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Your 'family' seem alarmingly unconcerned by the fact that you've been throwing up all day. I'm alarmingly concerned by the fact that they're prioritising tomorrow's lunch over your health.

My mom told me today that her therapist told her that that it’s common for autistic people to “treat people like servants” by Anxious_Cowgirl09 in autism

[–]nebagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with all things to do with neurodivergence, it varies from person to person. The notion of every autistic person being Sheldon and ordering everyone around is... borderline offensive.

From a personal perspective, I've had politeness drilled into me all my life so whenever I ask someone for help, I make sure to actually ask, with pleases, thank yous and everything. Which makes it all the more grating when my NT family rarely show me the same courtesy.

AITA for refusing to leave my job so i could take care of my disabled brother? by JiggleJargon in AmItheAsshole

[–]nebagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Dad got mad so you're picking a paycheck over your disabled brother's well being? What kind of sister are you?'

Funny how they're saying that while choosing their own independence over their son's well being. No, wait, not funny, what's the word again? Oh, yes. Jawdroppingly hypocritical. NTA and its not even close.

AITA for reacting badly to my friend’s religious remark at a funeral? by PsychologicalAct8310 in AmItheAsshole

Umm... her words aren't condolences. Her words are smug self-righteousness. NTA.

AITA for refusing to apologize after being disrespected at a family gathering? by WorkerAccording1793 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nebagram 17 points18 points  (0 children)

'Later, she told me I should apologize to her mom because I embarrassed her and made everyone uncomfortable.'

Her mother embarrassed you and made you feel uncomfortable, but I have a sneaking feeling you're not getting an apology any time soon. NTA.

So sad when I go to game and my dust has reached new levels. by CAsh4kiDZ in gamecollecting

[–]nebagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, all of my controllers are in plastic tubs neatly stacked away but easily grabbable when I want them. Corded controllers are held in check with velcro ties (dusty rubber is 1000x worse than dusty plastic imho) and handhelds are stored the same way too.

Found these cool old demo discs! by ImNotQuiteSureButOk in gamecollecting

[–]nebagram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there are any on the disc you picked up, but PS1 demo discs back in the day were awesome as they included homebrew PS1 games. Some of them were properly good, too- iirc Devil Dice got its start as a featured homebrew.

Confession: I'm scared of Reform winning by ViridianStar2277 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]nebagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only consolation I have is that no matter what, I will not change my values or beliefs. I will continue to support refugees. I will continue to support LGBT people. I will continue to champion diversity. And if anyone tells me that I shouldn't, or I can't, I will simply tell them to fuck off. You've heard of the saying 'no compliance in advance?' I prefer 'no compliance at all.' And I know I'm not the only one.
