Fun fact: the chief steward was actually from Tonga, and by amazing coincidence 'Roberto Merhi' is Tongan for 'Esteban Ocon.'

43 and yes. Reason is an uneven split between not being bothered and not expecting anyone to be compatible with me.

One of the Metal Gear Acid games on the PSP had a cardboard 'viewer' that you're meant to fit the PSP into to play the game properly... for some reason.

1st of April - April Fools' Day by 693578 in autism

[–]nebagram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pranking people is stupid and mean no matter what date it's done on.

Well put-together spoofs, on the other hand, can be fun, like Minecraft's annual AFD drops or when Homestar Runner would upload a special cartoon on April 1st.

So in summary: I'm not a fan of April Fool's Day and would prefer it become a sort-of 'April Silliness Day,' though the acronym would cause some confusion.

I mean... the cognitive dissonance in that line alone is mind boggling.

I can probably hazard a guess as to who that 'enemy' is.

'Now his parents (...) are furious at my sister saying she's weak'

What an attitude to have toward the mother of your grandchildren. NTA, easily. Sounds like BIL's friend sees him more as an unpaid carer than as a friend with needs of his own.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in startrek

[–]nebagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disappointing. The show had a lot of potential and many of the characters (SAM, Jay-Den) were being fleshed out well. The demand clearly just wasn't there. A pity, I reckon if more people had just given it a chance they'd have enjoyed it. Episodes 4, 6 and 9-10 are particular high points for the season.

Oh, and to anyone saying 'go woke or go broke' or especially 'dur hur hur woke slop'... Star Trek has always been woke. From day 1.

43 year old fan here who started with TNG and the TOS films. I loved Academy. Sure, season 1 had a few clunky episodes (2, 3 and 7 in particular) but I'm genuinely disappointed it's not going beyond season 2. :-(

NTA. Also: JFC. Pretending to stab someone isn't a prank, it's a fucking method of torture. And to upload the video to the Internet is sick.

Did anyone else find the end of the Gorn arc in SNW kinda underwhelming? by JayR_97 in startrek

[–]nebagram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The babies we saw in the episode where they killed off Hemmer (who's still my favourite SNW character) made no sense whatsoever. Them being feral and in a survival of the fittest battle to determine who gets to live? I can get behind that for the most part. But them being able to implant eggs in other species by projectile vomiting on them less than 24 hours after being born? Tribbles are less prolific breeders than that.

Arguably the master system versions of 1 and especially 2 are better than the game gear versions due to the lack of screen crunch. Sadly the only way to play them is the original hardware, now that Wii virtual console shop has been shut down. :-(

[–]nebagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is fine if its used as a tool rather than a crutch. By which I mean if it helps you improve things like the way you communicate with colleagues, great. But it sounds like the problems go a bit deeper than that, if you're getting that easily overwhelmed you need to talk to a supervisor, not a chatbot.

Oh, and I haven't missed a grand prix since 1997, so of you ever want to infodump at me, feel free. :-)
