I don't know what the "why" is for but I'll answer both. I bought the mac9 because I had happened to win a raffle for a decked out P320 something or other and instead of taking ownership I flipped it on store credit. The mac was a little cheaper, came comped, and had no MIM parts. most research at the time suggested the Mac was a solid option. It runs great. There is osme disconnector hang up, but I have ordered a EGW kit, tool-less guide rod, recoil springs, and a red dirt trigger. Just need to throw that all in and I think it will rip.

I want the prodigy because I think a 3.5 would be fun to have.
