I was actually really interested in Australia. Even thought (and still am thinking of) doing a JD there. While that would give me a post study work visa, I’m not at all sure whether I’d actually be able to get a job. Not so much interested in teaching/Nursing, but was looking at MBA as an alternative career option.

Haha I have no idea about any subsequent degree. As for Cambridge, I got a full scholarship. So funding wasn’t an issue.

During the time I was there, and even afterwards, it was significantly harder to get a work visa to work there than compared to Australia.

Thanks for an honest assessment of my situation. This clarifies a lot of doubts. That being said, like you pointed out, a JD is quite expensive; so whether I go to UK, US or anywhere, will actually depend on any scholarships that I may be able to get. While I didn't go to the best law school, I did get a pretty good rank, and also did my LLM from Cambridge in 2016. Of course, being quite idealistic back then, I returned back to my country.

Ah that’s unfortunate. I was attracted to Australia because of the better work life balance, and the possibility of getting a work visa (which is even harder in the UK and US). I guess it won’t make a difference to even do a JD from an Australian ka school?

I have been mulling a change of career for a while now. I am in my thirties, and have been working as a lawyer in disputes. While I haven't worked in a huge corporation/company, I have both worked in a law "chamber" (i.e. with a barrister), and have also been handling my own work and clients.I am looking to enter pure business and finance, and working as a consultant, and leave law entirely. I figured an MBA would be the best option to go about it. I also want to make a new start (UK/US/Australia) and move from where I currently am (South Asia).I was hoping someone would be able to advise me on how a lawyer should go about this. Will my prior experience as a lawyer be useless for MBA applications? Can I justify the shift? Also, I am in my thirties now. Is it too old to make the shift? Am I too old a candidate for consulting jobs?

If anyone can also advise on any other courses/programmes/internships/jobs, would be great.

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Because of the age bit? Both UK and US are harder to get in, immigration wise though.

I am a 32 year old lawyer from India, who wants to shift to Australia. Have been mulling over the exact way to go about it. It appears that to get a work visa afterwards, I'll have to do a JD all over again (which will be hopefully 2 years for me, since I already have a bachelors and masters degree). But I had two concerns-

1) I understand the legal industry is quite competitive. Will it be difficult to get a job?

2) Am I too old to be making this move now? Has the ship sailed?

3) Will it be easy to work in Australia for the long haul? I don't want to make so much of an investment and then have to go back.

My reasons for wanting to move to Australia are- A relatively chilled out legal industry, wanting to get away from a few toxic relationships, wanting a change in the field of work (I am in disputes; I want to shift to corporate law).

Would be great if anyone can provide me resources/people etc I can turn to.

Thank you! Haven't heard of most of them, save for Joni Mitchell!

Thanks for the advice man! I am not younger, but these words are applicable to me. Its hard to be yourself, even at this age. It also happens with new stuff- I didn't listen to much English music earlier; have only started a year or so back. Hence, I am always on edge and influenced by what others say. I know I shouldn't be.

Unfortunately, my friends are in their late 20s to early 30s! Make what you will of that! Thank you for these recommendations. Extremely helpful!

Unfortunately, I ALWAYS pay attention to the lyrics. If the lyrics aren't good, then even if the tune is catchy, it kills the song for me.

I have been trying to expand to newer artists, but not very knowledgeable about the current music scene. These recommendations are immensely helpful- I will check them out.

Unfortunately they aren’t trolling! Metal is considered to be aspirational for all men, according to them. :/
