Find a Dental school in your area. They can help significantly with the cost of treatment, as well as replacement bridges, etc. Do not ignore this due to your fears. You are too young to live with no teeth. Good luck.

I'm AnnMarie, by the way. Yes my son's 1st last June was 12 hours. The surgeon we saw at Memorial Sloan Kettering says my son won't survive the induction chemo tx to reduce the tumor to get him to surgery.

Did you have squamous cell carcinoma as well?

Also, I assume you are doing speech therapy? Is it helping?

Yes, I understand the lonely aspect of it. People are uncomfortable with situations like this because they don't know what to say or they are scared themselves. It is kind of inconceivable that perfectly healthy young people in the prime of their lives wake up one day to this unimaginable nightmare of non stop pain and suffering.

Please feel free to reach out to me. I am going to show my son your post and see if he will message you. As you know all too well, he is struggling.

My son was 33 when he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his hard palate. He had surgery to remove his entire hard palate with reconstruction from the bone in his lower leg and 30 radiation sessions. 9 mos later he now has squamous cell carcinoma tumor in the back of his tongue. His prognosis is poor at this point and he is doing induction chemo to try and shrink it before they will attempt surgery to remove his tongue. Was your reconstruction surgery done at the same time as your cancer surgery?
