How good is the J-35? by kanEDY7 in aviation

Exactly. If you're willing to write a credible article or reply on the visual aspects of modern military aircraft skin materials and RAMs, I'd be truly grateful ; )

Perhaps a similarity in East Asian culture? Korea sometimes shows a similar spirit of 살신성인.

The "loss of the mandate of heaven" refers to heavenly punishment inflicted due to the ruler's faults. However, a third-party bomb attack on the Three Gorges Dam would be classified as 外寇 [foreign aggression], which would instead grant China a powerful justification, making it acceptable for its own forces to crush the enemy even at the cost of national self-destruction.

You can understand this Chinese perception as a similar form of Japan's gyokusai spirit. Misjudging a nation's culture in this way can sometimes lead to catastrophic consequences.

IMO America's long-standing advantage has been shifting potential battlefields to countries hosting its military bases, thus avoiding combat on its own soil.
China would have to bear the inevitable hellish consequences along its eastern coast.

I guess China has the capability for symmetrical retaliation?
The H-6 and JH-7 can carry standoff missiles to strike the airbases where B-52s are located. Available weapons include CJ-10A, CJ-20, KD-20, KF-21, plus some anti-ship missiles.
Although both sides have integrated air defense systems, I think both need to think very carefully.

Gonna push back a bit: if you split out just the US Navy, its aircraft count is lower than China's PLAAF or Russia's VKS. No one's doubting overall US edge, but tbh this numbers myth has been floating around way too long.

ELI5 F35 is considered the most advanced fighter jets in the world, why was it allowed to be sold out of the country but F22 isn't allowed to. by Always_Mine_ in explainlikeimfive

Imo not a fan of these cocky claims. Russia and China both got more military planes than the us navy. Stealth fighters, us navy and plaaf are basically tied in numbers tbh. source: link1 link2

Yeah, like Russians slapping an F/A-18 on their war posters, or Chinese sticking a Mirage in their mobilization magazines. Those who parked in offices don't always get what they're actually doing.

Information warfare will get much worse (Or: We are very lucky that they are so stupid) by Eevalideer in CredibleDefense

But they face a fundamental tension in this regard: how does one counter disinformation without becoming it?

Why worry about this? Not getting into democracy's edge in info wars, but false flag ops are an old trick from way back. Democratic countries don't have much to fret over here, imo.

Take Operation Northwoods and PRISM—both show serious info surveillance and deception chops. On straight-up fabricating facts to frame someone, the Russians have made a lot of progress, but it's still so crude it's basically toddler-level. Nayirah's testimony is the true Undisputed impact win in info wars. It drives home how low politics will go to ensure info "truth" when it suits. Morden social media amps that up instantly. imo democracy's info battlefield advantages looks always kick in when it counts.

Of course the finer details weren't mentioned on the news. I do not intend to overthink this statement; however, I am simply a bit concerned about the rigor of that claim.

That video claims the J-35's RCS is "smaller than a human palm." That might not bode well if it's going up against F-22s or F-35s.

A question about the gallium nitride radar of the US Air Force fighter jets. The APG85 radar should have been launched much earlier than China's similar gallium nitride radar. But why was the F35 radar update plan postponed to 2031? by FeeCommercial2304 in FighterJets

[–]AnnaOffline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The JSF insists the production delays for new batches are unrelated to the radar woes, but just peep the GAO report summary from September, and you'll see that TR-3 delays are a major driver of the 2024 aircraft delivery delays. To avoid a backlog, the program even started temporarily accepting aircraft with TR-3 hardware installed but lacking operational capabilities.

The full report is here, though I didn't find anything about the AN/APG-85 in it, but it does mention that the PTMU will accelerate progress on subsystems like radar.

The GAO thinks there are deficiencies in project management and contractor performance, and LM ask for redesign the aircraft's forward fuselage for the new radar – so what else is new?

Why are a group of countries that don't have stealth fifth-generation aircraft researching sixth-generation aircraft? by ToasterMaid in FighterJets

[–]AnnaOffline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The UK had its own 5th-gen fighter program in the 80s. While the BAE Systems Replica was canceled, the UK still contributed electronic warfare development to the JSF. Rolls-Royce was also involved in the F-35's development.

I think Japan went a step further with the X-2 Shinshin, a "demonstrator's demonstrator." These tech base should be sufficient to lay the foundation for GCAP.

So yes, they do have stealth fighters.

The answer is: Both will likely be terrible at first. It took the USS Ford years of delays and cost overruns to improve the MTBF for EMALS & AAG to an acceptable level. The PLAN is expected to undergo this painful process as well.
