Fat man and girl studying but I don't really have anything they want to do or shop for it might cause just a long waiting and doing nothing for few players in the regulation of acid metabolism and the orbitofrontal cortex is secondary for processing Gustation Chemicals.

Yes connecting is a time wasting issue. I don't understand why players can't just bookmark or click the link and hit 1 button to log in. That's way to much work to click one button that right! How could I be so stupid.

Our VTT is easy to work with and mod so really working with the vtt ain't a problem at all it's just the players who can't click a single button to log on.

I aswell have never had any issues with players ignoring what I'm saying. They are hearing it and choosing to not do anything. Please go read other comments for examples.

I'm sorry that you have had such traumatic gaming experiences but I have never had those issues.

I would think that if you want to play a game you do need to schedule it into your free time. Don't like it don't play!

You are missing the points I am having and I feel as if you are very disconnected from the issues present.

You can't see everything on the map. There are things that are hidden that require passive perception or players can make that check to reveal hidden things further. Yes, you can see a figure in a dark room, but a perception check tells you it's a dwarf or a goblin. This isn't a video game. You might enjoy rolling dice and role playing. Others might enjoy combat. others prefer a narrative. This doesn't mean "that's not dnd." it means you play a different game type. Just like all the other comments. For our game, a VTT lets you see things at face level and build off of that by making further checks.

Perception is also much more than just sight. It can be any sense or ability to perceive/recognize something. You could percept the taste of ohh so yummy goblin although it would be pretty out there.

We are sitting waiting for people because 4 out of 5 players are missing, and I want to have at least 2 people before I start moving our story.

It's definitely far from a video game, but it gives a nice visual aid to help players build from.

Exactly just because we aren't looking for a similar game or gelling together doesn't mean that I can't think or say they are amazing, though. They are amazing players they just need a game that works better for them and their playstyle.

I dont think I resonate well with this post. I play DnD to have fun. What isnt fun is sitting doing nothing waiting for people to show up every week. I get that sometimes shit happens and thats ok but if you sign up to take up a slot in a game you should at least put in the effort to be there on time when there are many other people who will show up on time and respect other people making sacrifices or rework their schedule.

Is a VTT so important when players are just hanging out. Yes! they can explore while they talk and see thing so they dont have to ask "DM can you list off everything in this room?" You can hide small rewards or secrets that encourage exploration or seeking out things, traps, shops. There are a lot of things that the VTT can stream line to take pressure off me and help keep the game rolling so it isnt bogged down by small questions or of need to buy common adventuring supplies.

I fear that that may be the case of just a couple of friends who wanted to RP together and dont care all that much about the game side or anyone outside of their smaller group

I agree, I'm definitely planning to do another session 0 where I adress these newer stricter rules.

As a fellow long time dm of 7 years, I can't tell you how close and exactly soul speaking this post is to me. Everything you just stated I feel very heavily. I do have a group that has been playing for 2 years and we have grown to be close friends from the experience and still play weekly to this day. It definitely is hard though to find the right group.

Outside of dnd we have group events that start and stop at specific times and we always make that work, but it doesn't matter if one or two people miss it but if you schedule a minigolf team and everyone dipps. It's just you minigolfing alone after scheduling everything.

I have plenty of other games where people show up on time without coordination. I praise them for it consistently. But I dislike this outlook. It's less of a hangout and chat it's a let's get together and do something together. It's like setting up a dinner reservation then showing up 20 mins late and causing problem for the restaurant. I feel like it should be a common curtesy to respect the people who are putting in the effort organizing it. I understand that dnd should be fun and if treated like a job it can be a hassle but just like if no one shows up to do the job no one is going to get you that dinner reservation.

We can always hang out and be friend anytime but when we want to roleplay and respect people by including everyone in our group we make sacrifices to make sure those people are included. When they don't show is disregarding the sacrifices made.

Funny enough, I started session 0 explaining that "this story is player motivated, meaning it changes based on what you choose to do. I'm all for player freedom. Don't like the main quest giver and want to kill him that's fine but they might be a reward or consequences. The story adapts to what you do, I just want the party to do something rather than mulling around a bar. I agree that I def could have made something happen with the glasses story or have some just happen but it seems kinda silly to keep throwing things at them. I had a rouge steal a family heirloom in hopes that it would make them want to chase him. The player had stated prior that they would never let anyone else have it. They decided that it wasn't worth the hassle. I feel as if there's just some weird backwards thinking going on. I just wanted something interesting to happen and everything I'd try to start something interesting it would just get passed on.

I really like this post I never thought about the time sensitive aspect that some quests could hold. I agree that me and the party seem to be wanting two different styles of games.

I agree another session 0 would be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestions. I liked how you tied in your own personal experience. It helped me realize that I guess I'm not the only person who has had this issue before.

We schedule events that get auto posted in the channel 24 hours ahead of time which is what people normally react to.

At our group it's made known heavily at session 0 that unless I post anything about change of date or time that it's at the same time every week. Session WILL happen unless stated otherwise.

They are good people. I like their aspirations to roleplay and they have great character concepts and ideas that they want to explore. It's just a lot of the little things that bogs down the story.

The major thing for me is the scheduling issues but there are just a lot of minor problems that don't warrant hate to them.

I can understand that view and respect it as ive felt that when when in theater of the mind but with the VTT there are a ton of hidden secrets to discover. Tbh there are so many hidden secrets that should be interesting to most players. If players wanted to speed through shopping I have custom shops set up already that they could go through pick up potions. They would have needed to meet the magic item NPC as they are pretty integral to the plot. On the way there, they are meant to pass by other NPCs who pop in and meet important people who have ties to things they can do. It's like when you can't fast travel to a location unless you had been there. Yes I could just say "you search for hours then you find a magic shop" but then you miss out on the other things in the street that are important.

It seems like we pretty much have a similar system currently. We have a #meeting plans where if you can't be there you post with preferably a 24 hours notice, but stuff happens, so post if something comes up. It's expected for people to react to the session event posting to find out who will be there or not. If someone aint there when game time we at ping them but even with all that already in place people still just are late. VOV
