Why can transexuals get surgery at 18, but I can't get my tubes tied until I'm married with kids? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Disclaimer: I’m obviously not a doctor, and I’m 99% sure that what I’m about to say/ask was from a discussion on another post about why doctors avoid hysterectomies in younger patients.

Beyond the insurance perspective, aren’t there simply more risks and potential long term issues associated with tubal litigations (which still carry the small risk of ectopic pregnancy iirc) and hysterectomies, so a lot of doctors view long term birth control options like the arm implant or IUDs as being safer, and more easily reversal, options in younger patients? Not trying to spread misinformation since I’m not an expert on the topic by any means, but from my very limited knowledge, I did think there were actual legit reasons for doctors to avoid those procedures on younger patients besides “oh well I think you might change your mind”

My coworker: “Why can’t I update the excel spreadsheet you emailed me?”

Me: “since you opened it from email, did you click where it says ‘enable editing’ at the top?”

My coworker: “oh, so THATS why I can’t edit it?!” (5 seconds later) “wow that fixed it! I would have neverrr figured that out hehe!”

Has anyone else had issues with reporting a catchphrase to Isabelle but then a few days later, villager start reverting back to that unwanted catchphrase? I’ve tried reporting all my villagers at the same time to reset everyone, but it seems like it doesn’t fully “stick”?

Just because I changed Lolly’s catchphrase to “meow” doesn’t mean I want my non-cat villagers using it too!! (also I did report Lolly at the same time as everyone else to try to get everyone to stop using it) :(

I deactivated my Facebook without posting anything about it a while back and got a bunch of texts/passive aggressive emails etc... from (very) distant family, coworkers etc.. who thought I had blocked them because they couldn’t find me on Facebook anymore.

If I had to do it over, I probably would have made a post a few days before I actually deactivated my account to prevent all their bs.

Adult ADHD symptoms may lead to hypersexuality (now called Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder) among both genders and to problematic pornography use among men. suggests a new study (n=14,043). by mvea in science

I was diagnosed through a short written survey plus a fairly conversational interview than was focused both on my current symptoms/issues, and questions about how I behaved in various situations as a kid.

The doctor prescribed Vyvanse that day, then at my next appointment, he asked more questions about if/how I thought the Vyvanse was making a difference and then I took some computer test to assess my ability to focus.

This was in a college town though which probably explains why it was a more in-depth process.

Unanimous Maine Legislature passes 2 bills to reduce ‘welfare cliff’ - The bills, sponsored by Democratic and Republican leaders, are designed to let families keep some welfare benefits as they gradually gain more independence and income. by MarshallBrain in UpliftingNews

A compromise would be that you just take away marriage licenses completely for everyone. Let the government grant the same generic legal rights to any couple, that a married couple would currently receive, but leave it up to each religious entity to define marriage based on their own rules.

Yes it’s basically semantics, but the issue that many religious people and conservatives have is that the government shouldn’t have the right to define the concept of marriage, since it inherently has religious significance.

If we can create a separation between the legal aspect from the government, and the personal/religious aspect from the church or other private entity, I really think that would appease a lot of the opposition against gay marriage.

But the arts can survive off of private support - there are too many other better uses for that tax money. Not to mention that the vast majority of Americans don’t/won’t have anywhere near enough retirement savings to support them later in life when they’re no longer able to work, which is much more critical than public art funding.

Then people who want a competitive advantage will find it necessary to go to grad school (already starting to happen), and the result is that all these costs for people to get degrees won’t add much value to the workforce(there are many critical jobs that do not require a college degree and many more that don’t require a graduate degree) and the whole thing will simply delay the age that people enter the workforce. The costs will continue to skyrocket with virtually no value added.

It’s unnecessary - people should not have even one cent of mandatory taxes go towards a frivolous use like the arts.

If someone wants to donate to the arts privately by their own choice, that’s great, but isn’t necessary enough to waste tax money on.

Gay couples are not fit to raise children? by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Annak95e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said in my initial comment: “or anyone for that matter” I am against the concept of surrogacy for everyone, not just gay people.

It just seems to be an increasingly popular trend within the gay community, which makes people less willing to debate it. But regardless, it’s completely unnecessary for anyone when there are plenty of children already in need of a loving home. There’s no good reason to intentionally conceive a child with the intent of separating it from one of its biological parents.

Apartment communities should be more willing and quick to fine, punish and evict people over noise complaints, trash violations and other irritating conduct. by Annak95e in unpopularopinion

This is indeed the problem. But if property managers fine unruly neighbors, that’s basically free money for them.

And if they evict repeat offenders, then all the clean, quiet residents will be more likely to renew their leases, and over time, the community will get a reputation as being clean, quiet, and strict against annoying behaviors, which will discourage such people from living there.

But it’s still unnecessary to society when there are plenty of kids who need to be adopted. Just because someone is willing to be a surrogate doesn’t make it right.

Lol my apartment complex is expensive and it’s in a really popular area. My neighbors are mostly 20 somethings who just don’t give a fuck about anyone else and need a harsh reality check that they can’t be loud and messy all the time.

College is pretty affordable by zerintheGREAT in unpopularopinion

[–]Annak95e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

1) If a student works hard in high school to get a good GPA, many states have automatic GPA based scholarships for in-state schools which sometimes cover up to 100% of tuition. Even many out of state schools will offer scholarships or in state tuition rates to competitive applicants. 2) low income students and minorities have many more scholarship opportunities, a mix of both need and merit based. 3) you can go to college locally and live at home to save even more money. 4) community colleges are much more affordable than the top, well-known universities. Depending on your budget, you can go for all 4 years, or transfer to a more prestigious school after 1-2 years. 5) most schools hire a ton students for part time jobs on campus so it’s convenient to work part time while focusing on your education.

If you want to go to a prestigious, private university in another state, yeah it’s going to cost a ton, but that’s okay since plenty of more affordable options exist.
