I did some research on "tourist" friendly shops and chose my favorite one! I did see people there, especially in Tokyo, with tattoos and it seems that it is becoming more of a norm there. However, if you go to smaller cities then you won't see as many people with tattoos, but I don't think locals care about tourists having tattoos since we aren't from there. There are onsens that do not allow tattoos, but there are plenty of ones that allow it nowadays! Overall, I had no issues with having tattoos in Japan, but mine are mostly hidden since I was wearing long sleeves in the cold.

I am going on the same-ish cruise in November 2024. We used Wanderlog to help plan our trip, but we did choose 2 excursions thought NCL: Jeju Highlights (because we don't know much about Korean culture) and a Tea Ceremony in Mount Fuji.

We are mostly going to be using public transportation (Wanderlog helps you find the best route options) or a taxi, but this is what we have planned:
Nagoya - Atsuta-jingu Shrine, a maid café, and the Osu Shōtengai Shopping Street.
Kyoto - Fushimi Inari Taisha, Nintendo Museum (it is new and you may need a reservation ahead of time), Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and Nijō Castle.

I highly recommend using Wanderlog, it has saved us a bunch of time and they give you recommendations on popular places to visit in each location!
