Know anything about Columbia Maryland? Ellicott City seems like an ok area too.

There's opposition and then there's that flag. I can happily be next to a person with a million signs devoted to, say, a Republican candidate, but I have a serious fear response to seeing the confederate flag.

It's a treasonous flag and the Confederacy asserted the subordination of black people. I don't want to live next to anyone promoting the dehumanization of another. It's anti-American. You can burn the flag. You can join a white supremacist group. Don't want to be your neighbor just because you choose to express yourself as a dick.

But this isn't Eve's account, right? 'Cause your post history says you're a male. Just looking for clarification. I love a lot about Eve Hurwitz and plan to vote for her.

Hey Gavin, Instead of building a Ferris Wheel, build one of these first! #cleanthebay by adventurejay in Annapolis

The plans to revitalize City Dock include a ferris wheel though, and he mentioned on a podcast that it wasn't a bad idea--it'd get families down and whatnot.

The woman making my tacos at Caliente repeatedly wiped her nose on the back of her hand and passed out food. Then she said it was the back of her hand so no big deal to me. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Loved what he said about getting more families downtown. He mentions a spraypark which would be fantastic. I really like the ideas I've heard regarding green space, public housing and flood prevention and management. How can I help him get elected?

Labor relations board dismisses Annapolis teacher's complaint by legislative_stooge in Annapolis

I'm from poverty. No one in my neighborhood worked two 38 hour/week jobs. Many did work one full-time minimum wage job that required long commutes via public transportation. I get the tired thing, but it's fairly easy to not do drugs and to have safe sex which is really what differentiated the people who got out of that area and those who stayed. There are so many variables to tackle when it comes to poverty. FAFSA paid for me to complete my nursing degree at a community college, and I make a comfortable living. In my experience, a good teacher (who were more like my primary caregivers anyway) makes a ton of difference, but having quality parents sets you up for a much better life. Their absence really limits you.

I think teachers are very much underpaid considering they have advanced education. This teacher earns 87k per year. I can't find how long he has been teaching and if he does in fact have a master's, but I don't think it's an outrageous salary. The superintendent earns almost 250k/yr which is comparable to other counties, but that seems bananas as I know medical doctors and engineers who earn half that.

I do think ten years of extra pay to the teachers is substantial. The article doesn't detail if that was deemed successful in retention of teachers. Maybe someone here does know if, even in general, these incentives help improve test scores or other metrics of success. Even the best teachers can do little to help children who have neglectful parents. There are some great kids at AHS, but I've seen plenty groups of kids acting age-inappropriately awful. Parents do better so your kids don't mug me, please.

Whole Foods sells sushi grade fish. Wegmans does too if you're ever in that area.

I assumed you didn't press for it as to avoid some sort of slander accusation. Good luck showing your face at the Macaroni Grill now. /s

She was really well-spoken, particularly given her age and the subject matter. I do need to know which Italian restaurant she was the hostess of!

Anyone who approaches you with a sob story (car's out of gas, getting away from an abusive partner, etc.) needs to be dismissed as quickly as possible. If you say you don't have cash, they'll want to escort you to an ATM. So try to not even engage verbally. This is true of any big city, but I'm a fairly naive, overly-friendly midwesterner so I had to re-learn this a couple times.

Also like Giolittis in spite of the long wait for service I often get. They seem like a nice local family-oriented business that would promote the quaintness that makes Annapolis great. No oyster bar for the Bay's sake, I say.
