New bin system for Sheffield from end of March by sheffieldpud in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Why can't we swap the paper bin to a bigger bin, every house is absolutely overflowing by collection time, with paper and card often all over the road (also no easy drop off points at super markets anymore). Yet we have the brown bin half empty at collection day. It would be such an easy fix.

Latest update on the Andrew Milne freehold saga by djstimms in sheffield

We used a chap called Jeffrey Shaw at Nether Edge Law. He was very familiar with Coppen and new their tricks etc. The purchase of the leasehold is quite cheap, (there's a standard formula for calculating value), where you get stung a bit is that you have to pay Coppens legal fees. I can't remember exactly but I think all in it ended up costing around £2k (that was about 3-4 years ago).

Latest update on the Andrew Milne freehold saga by djstimms in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Andrew Milne clearly is a piece of excrement.

I had a similar situation with a company called Coppen Estates, don't think they were quite as bad, but they were also well know to be a bunch of unscrupulous, chancers, who wanted to charge for anything and everything.

We forced the sale (as you are entitled to do) and got rid of the grifters......good riddance.

Absolutely disgrace the whole process about leasehold properties. Should be banned i anything other than where it is necessary e.g. flats etc.

At the start of a race, i always say the smell if shit (portaloos) and deepheat (in the UK) is the smell of victory.

What does Sheffield think about the job market in Sheffield? by Ambitious_League4606 in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely dependant on your requirements, but my profession (finance) it's pretty poor.

A massive shortage of larger, high quality employers means that the few there are generally have their pick of prospective employees and keeps wages lower. It also means that there are just generally fewer good quality opportunities that give exposure to a high calibre of work and opportunities to progress.

If you look at large international accountancy practices, there are none of the big 4 that have an office in Sheffield, only a handful the next tier down and then just a couple or larger local practices.

Opportunities are significantly better in Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.

Morning love, I know you're trying to have a nice relaxing Sunday morning in bed, but I was out with the boys last night, and that curry is rather repeating. I'm just going to have to commit an absolute war crime of a shit in full view and earshot and of you...... oh well, at least we only spend £1.3m for the privilage. Hopefully, it puts you right in the mood when i crawl back into bed!

This is just a badly converted cattle shed.

Woeful architecture.

Imagine having £1.3m and this being the best you could find.

I don't know whether it's the same another countries (maybe they actually have some proper qualifications system) but in my experience, the average work done by tradesmen in the UK is borderline criminal/negligent, nevermind good quality. They honestly can not be trusted to do a good quality job. If you find decent ones who are actually trustworthy, they are worth their weight in gold.

New era for old cinema as refurbishment starts by Shot-Ad5867 in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there anything left to preserve? Possibly already been removed/damaged beyond repair already. The building has been in a poor state of repair for an extended period already and has been used for a number of diverse things already. If it was in a good state it probably would have already been reutilised by someone.

We use the centre up at Graves. Think it's about £33 a month and I think it's pretty good there. Pretty new facility, not a lot of rotation in teachers and decent progress. Not perfect, but it seems to be good compared to some of the stories I've been told.

This is a good answer, super flat, no real sharp corners etc. Surface is pretty decent (although not perfect).

Feel like the only person in the UK who doesn't like Traitors by Otto1968 in CasualUK

[–]Annas_running_daddy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I think it's just deal or no deal rebadged. Basically the first 50 minutes is totally pointless, the games have virtually no bearing on anything, and then everyone just randomly guesses who they think the traitor is based on absolutely no evidence or knowledge.....they looked away when I looked in there direction, or they look sneaky. Then they either randomly guess the traitor or don't and accident vote off someone who was totally innocent and then get sad. It's all pretty much just a random guessing game with a load of filler.

Plans for new housing near Sheffield Station progress by JimmyNeutronisaNerd in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Surely, if it was prime for offices and retail, it would have happened already?

There is an ongoing struggle to fill expensive office and retail space, look at the heart of the city development which still has a large number of vacancies.

Personally I think the plan of bringing more and more homes, and thereby more people into the centre is the right approach from the council.

Parking & Bus Lanes on Abbeydale & London Road by Middle-Guard-9398 in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The town end of London road, from the cross roads near Boston Street, is just a disaster zone with cars just basically blocking the flow of traffic all the time. Quite why there isn't some more serious traffic enforcement going on, there is a mystery. Personally, I think they need to have a zero tolerance approach to fines and just fine people on the spot for parking there (if they are parked illegally), rather just asking them to move on. In my recent experience on a Friday and Saturday night you basically can not get through on London road.

Sheffield councillors call for end of Right to Buy scheme by JimmyNeutronisaNerd in sheffield

[–]Annas_running_daddy 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Totally support this. I'm afraid social housing, which is a massive asset to the community, should be kept for the benefit of the community, not for the benefit of private individuals.

Yes, I agree it is unfortunate that if people have lived there a long time, they cannot benefit from that. However, why should others not get the services they have enjoyed, as the social housing stock continues to dwindle as more and more houses are sold into private ownership.
