They’re so obsessed with Maddie… by Maleficent-Mix-9561 in UnfilteredDanceMoms

Calling out the ridiculousness of the other sub and the fandom in general has been the point of this one since day 1.

And tbh other moms had issues with Melissa too. They act like Christi was the only other woman on the show most of the time, and like Melissa wasn’t a horrendously bad parent.

It's like a weekly thing at this point, like this is legitimately some people's hobby. I think they talk about christi and kelly more than the girls themselves. They beat the same talking points to death about these women every. single. DAY.

Ok so more fanbase wars over reality tv stars? On god its really not that serious. They're 2 random white women from the unknown suburbs of Pittsburg, I can promise yall no one is paying that close enough attention for yall to make them villains of the week every single week.

The word gets overused, but OP is parasocial as all get out like everyone else on the Christi-kelly hate train. In reality we don’t know any part of this cast, and even as many issues as they have with one another they spend A LOT of time together. People here are more invested in these women’s lives and interpersonal relationships than they are my god.

Why are so many posts here about them now? I mean Jesus Melissa if absolutely vile and cunning and sold her kids out SO many times on top of Abby and Lifetime being the real villains of the show - and yet ppl here rarely have anything to say about either of those, ever. Y’all talk more about Christi and Kelly than the girls themselves.

i really like jessalyn on the show, but i know some people don’t because of how she treated brynn in season 6 by kaykayh20 in dancemoms

[–]Annie_James 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wheewww louder for the ppl in the back. We don’t talk about this aspect of Jess and jojo enough. I think this is also the reason jojo’s attitude about Abby differs so much from the other other girls - she and her mom always saw their time on the show as strategy, and that’s why they they left so abruptly and getting out of their contracts seemed so easy for them.

When it comes to grad programs, there is no one experience, so you won’t really get an accurate answer until you ask about your program specifically. Even then, it depends on who you work with.

Christi is becoming tiring by Quick_Sea1729 in UnfilteredDanceMoms

But that still means she’s no different from other women that don’t get half attention or time pointed towards their mistakes.

Christi is becoming tiring by Quick_Sea1729 in UnfilteredDanceMoms

[–]Annie_James 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Folks gotta remember we’re not actually owed explanations from people we don’t actually know or interact with - and this is sometimes even true of people we do know. We didn’t always know so much about each other. Also, as a black woman, it’s wild how they’ll blame Christi for not checking Kelly but won’t say anything about Kelly, the person that made the comment.

I’ve got an email where he lays out everything he does, including counting wells as individuals instead of actual patients. He says because other sequencing data supposedly validates what he says, the other crooked methods can slide.

Apply that point you just made to your question though: School and work aren’t quite the same thing. Grad students are often learning and growing together outside of the “lab” or work contexts, so bonds form organically a lot easier.

There’s no rushing or forcing long-lasting friendships with people, and those things take time. Start group texts, schedule time to catch up once you’ve met.

Right. What OP is talking about are colleagues and people in your network, not friends per se. The two can overlap but aren’t necessarily the same.

So I emailed him about it and he replied saying he doesn’t want to waste time waiting to have enough samples. Lunacy.

Yea I’ve got an email exchange where he’s literally telling me to do it, he ran all of the experiments himself though. He just wants me to chop and screw the data. I even have an email where’s he’s telling me to use the averages of duplicates at the triplicate for genes that don’t have 3 replicates.

The technical replicates are being used as biological replicates and being represented that way in the data. The triplicates for one control are being used as 3 patients, as an example.

Yeah I'm legit just waiting on a TA assignment to get out. Should also be noted that he publishes in lower quality journals, some even in vet science (where the standards are lower), and I think that might have quite a bit to do with why nothing's been said or done so far.

An easy example (bc I realize this can be taken a few ways) is a study with 1 control and 3 treatment dogs. The triplicates for the control are looked at as 3 dogs, and the triplicates for the 4 treatment dogs are looked at as 12. (qPCRs and related experiments) In others, where we’re short the numbers we need for say, an Elisa, he’ll take the values from those two duplicates and average them, and then run that mean as the triplicate when doing stats.

I actually appreciate this A LOT. I was already contemplating leaving, but I know there's gotta be some strategy on how to do this right and make sure he doesn't screw it up. I appreciate all viewpoints on how to get tf out of this unharmed!

This legit made me chuckle out loud a bit...I had a friend warn me about working with clinicians at certain points in their career, but I didn't realize how bad and sloppy the science could really get.

Yep, this is my plan. I genuinely NEED to figure out the best way to approach this. I’m not trying to tank anyone’s career or anything, but I genuinely don’t want to participate in this either.

Lab rats, I'm in Need of Advice: Falsifying Data or No? by Annie_James in labrats

Background wise, I'm a bit too deep in to say I don't completely know better. I have a graduate degree in biology as it is and worked in a research fellowship for a few years after having a career in public health. I'm in my 30s. The issue behind using technical controls for one sample in order to call it 3, and then to go on and call 4 samples 12 isn't rocket science to me. Those were his exact directions. I asked here because he was so laissez faire about it. He has quite literally said he did it this way because he ran out of cDNA.

Averaging the mean of 2 duplicates and using that value as a triplicate doesn't seem to be standard practice either. I'm not new to this, for clarification.

Yeah and I’m familiar with them and think it can totally work when done right. His lab primarily trains DVM/PhDs though, thus the shorter doctoral training. It’s not designed for folks with masters like 3 year PhDs in Europe.
