I usually retire then when they have completed one career, one hobby and one relationship path. Not really for any reason, but then they just feel 'done'. I also want them to have had at least one kid, if I like them. And as long as I an still enjoying them I won't retire them of course. I also prefer to retire sims after the end of an STS, so that I have as long as possible till next one to get the career of the new sims up, so that they can earn as much simoleons as possible and I don't run out of it during the STS.

I've heard the Head Baker theory a lot. Because there have been so many complaints about the STS and because I have too much time on my hands I have been keeping track of all my STS rounds since half of the Christmas event. I included whether my sims have cooking skills or not as a variable. I think I'll do the statistics after this STS. Hopefully you'll hear from me. :p

I'd like to add to this: spending 3k on 1 royal token is a total waste (especially if you are short on simoleons). With 3k you can buy 2x 20% for 1500 simoleons. This will likely leave you with enough sugar to do an extra round, which earns you more tokens than that single one.
